Dark copper, nice large-bubbled foam, clear.
Aroma is very grainy and appetizing, you can really smell the malt, a bit like a well made lager of the traditional kind. Some dried fruit and yeast esters. Caramel is paramount but not cloying.
Taste complements the aroma with a moderate smooth bitterness, some yeast notes at the end of the aftertaste. Pleasant mouthfeel with just the right amount of body and carbonation.
Overall a very nice ale that tastes more bready and therefore fresher than anything I have had from Fuller's. Otherwise not very unique, follows their regular palette. A bit mysterious as their website does not list this. Strength is a bit higher but alcohol is well hidden, easy to drink.

Pours a deep, dark reddish brown with thick, soft head.
Smell is malty with notes of rye bread and dried fruit, along with a hint of spice.
Taste is fruity and rich, with a nice, solid malt base and a slight hint of yeast. Notes of dried fruit, chocolate and a hint of leather. Moderate bitterness, well balanced.
Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated.
Overall, a fine winter ale, balanced and tasty.
