A 500ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2018. Purchased recently from Waitrose. The label describes it as a 'superior strength ale' brewed with pale and crystal malt.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip. A deep marmalade-amber hue with good carbonation. Yields a smallish head of frothy white foam that lasts for a minute or so before collapsing and disappearing, leaving only the thinnest of collars.

S: Aroma of rich, sweet malt with hints of honey, caramel, toffee, barley sugar, mild raisins, ale yeast, faint leafy hops and a warming whiff of booze. Very nice.

T: Tastes of sweet malt with a warm, fruity character. Notes of caramel, toffee, honey, subtle raisins, barley sugar, ale yeast esters, delicate leafy hops and a twinge of alcohol. Decadently creamy, with a sweet finish underpinned by a faint bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is unctuously smooth, with soft carbonation and superb body. Aftertaste of sweet caramel malt, subtle fruitiness, ale yeast and faint leafy hops.

O: Excellent - a demonstration of Fuller's capacity to produce timeless classics. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour are sweet and characterful. Lovely body; perhaps a shade more carbonation wouldn't hurt. Probably more appropriate in the colder months but it goes down a treat. Add this to your must-try list.

From a 500ml bottle.

Pours crystal clear, russet colour with a small head that disappears quickly and leaves no trace.

Smell is toasted malt and alcohol.

Tastes of caramel, raisins, spiced apple juice, and alcohol. Sweet & boozy.

Soft, velvety mouthfeel with an alcoholic bite in the finish. Surprisingly drinkable.

Listed in the "1001 Beers To Taste Before You Die".
MJ's "Guide" gave it 3 of 4 stars and called it "a honeys, but quite dry, pale, barley wine."
