I picked up a few cans of Leinenkugel's Old Fashion Shandy in their new Shandy variety pack a couple days ago at Meijers. It's another warm and humid day in Mid Michigan and a Shandy sounds pretty good right about now, so lets see how it goes. No visible canning date. Poured from a 12oz can into a imperial pint glass.

A- The can looks nice, it's got that typical design for Lienenkugel's Shandys and I don't think it's too eye catching. It poured a weird pale golden color that took on more of a cloudy orange yellow color when held to the light with two and half fingers worth of fluffy white head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left a little bit of patchy lacing behind. This was a nice looking beer, but the color was a little weird looking.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with a big fruity aroma being the first to show up and it's dominated by citrus fruits that are like a combination of oranges, lemons and grapefruits, it's got an artificial and slightly boozy aroma that instantly reminds of the Orange MD 20/20's that I used to drink in my youth. Up next comes some doughy yeast with a slightly watery, grainy, bready and light sweet malt like aromas coming through. I wasn't a big fan of the aroma of this beer, it brought back too many bad memories of MD 20/20.

T- The taste seems to be fairly similar to the aroma and it starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the fruits being the first to show up and they impart that same aspect that I got in the aroma, it's a little lighter but it still has that artificial aspect to it and it combines with this weird buttery flavor to make for a taste that wasn't pleasant. On the finish comes this weird licorice and spearmint like flavor with no bitterness and it lingers into the aftertaste with more of that artificial citrus flavor. I didn't like the taste of this beer, it was just to artificial and weird, the flavors clashed.

M- Not too smooth, crisp, not clean at all, a little fizzy, on the light side being medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel was decent and seemed to be on par for the style, but I wish it was smoother.

Overall I didn't think this was a good beer and it wasn't a good example of the style, I don't know what about this was Old Fashion because to me it tasted like these newer alcoholic pops with lots of artificial flavors. This beer beer didn't have good drinkability, it wasn't too smooth, not clean at all, crisp, a little fizzy, not filling at all and the taste did a bad job at holding my attention, one can is more than enough for me, no way I would want another one. What I liked the most about this beer was the mouthfeel, it seemed to be the aspect which was the truest to style. What I liked the least about this beer was the taste and aroma, there were for sure the low points of this beer and they needed lots of work. I wound't buy this beer again, especially on it's own and I wouldn't recommend it either, it's just not a good shandy. All in all I did not like this beer, it just wasn't for me and it seemed like once I got bast the appearance everything just started to go down hill. This is now my least favorite Shandy and I'm pretty sure it's my least favorite beer from Leinenkugel's, their orange shandy tastes like a way better version of this one. Better luck next time guys, this beer needs a lot of work.

This late night with Leinenkugel's shandy's is brought to you by the incredible woodychandler. Beer 2 of 3. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy whiteish color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is fruity, lots of citrus. Taste is, um, well, just off. Different flavors that don't go well together. Wheat is present, as is oak, some citrus, and a peculiar aftertaste as well. Feels light and unpleasant in the mouth and overall, by no means the worst beer I have had, but one I will have no need to drink again.

Pours like a lemonade, opaque canary yellow with two fingers of white foam. Surface has a creamy texture and a skim lasts for the first few sips. Minimal spotty lace.

Smells lemony and lightly sweet, somehow less artificial than the standard shandy.
Something sweet like a lemon butter cookie.

Tastes gross with a weird artificial aftertaste. Lemonade and old wedding cake. Seltzer water. Where's the whiskey and maraschino cherry? Bland with a bad aftertaste that won't go away. Reminds me of Moody Tongue. Thanks Tom for this weird one, glad I didn't have to buy it.

Leinenkugel’s Old Fashioned Shandy has a very thick, creamy, foamy, off-white head, a milky, yellow-gold, bubbly appearance, and some bits of lace left behind. The aroma is very strong, and it is hard to describe, but I think I was detecting coconut, candle wax, strong spices of some sort, citrus, and malt. Taste is of coconut cream pie, citrus, assorted spices, malt, black pepper, smoke, and other oddities. Mouthfeel is medium, and Leinenkugel’s Old Fashioned Shandy finishes prickly, crisp, and highly drinkable.
