2017 notes:
Dark brown color, slim off-white head.
In the nose: sweet malt, cocoa tinges, nice.
In the mouth: good and balanced. Lightly sweet, full malt flavors, cool and calm. Light to Medium bodied, with an utmost ease of drinking. Chocolate notes persist through the taste.
I've got to admit it: I love a good ol' Bavarian Dunkel, and this is one of them.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours deep red with a nice off white head. Smells of bright fruit notes, especially berries, and caramelized grain. Tastes of caramelized grain with slight fruitiness. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a good beer.

Too bad this has been retired. A good brew for the holidays.

This has a nice dark taste throughout. The fruit juices with which it is said to be brewed are faint, and perhaps add some subtlety to the proceedings. This brings to mind memories of other dark beers from the summer of 2008, when we were better able to test thousands of beers and pretend to write intelligently about them. 2017/02/27

From notes taken 06/13/17:
Pinkish brown on the pour, but a darker brown with wine-red hues in the glass. Mostly clear. Capped with a fine, even, uniform, two-finger foamy head, light mocha in color. Grains, toffee, toast, faint dark fruit and anise, fairly leafy to earthy hops on nose. A palate of roast, toffee, nuts, and lingering tartness that is almost more metallic than dark fruity. Finish is akin to a dry red wine, in both flavor and feel, apart from carbonation. Medium-bodied, smooth, full of creamy suds with a light prickle on the edge.
