Look- The beer itself is a handsome light straw color but the lace is a mess. It has all the telltale signs of a sub-standard macro- it is soapy, sticky, and thin.

Smell- Not much here, maybe a whiff of adjunct. No hops, no malt.

Taste- While I've had worse, this disappoints. It is a ringer for Miller High Life. Sweet and thin.

Feel- About what you'd expect from a can of macrobrew.

Overall- Meh. I remember drinking this in college and, as such, this is an ok beer for the sake nostalgia. That aside, if you are drinking on the cheap, you are far better getting your hands on another beer from the Miller family- Hamms.

Clear, golden yellow body topped with a rich, sticky, white head;; rings of foam laddering down the glass.. Light cereal grain aroma. Mild, light bread flavor with a well-balanced hop bitterness. Medium body; somewhat warm on the palate. Mainly dry finish.

I'm not sure if this is really an adjunct lager (I've emailed the brewery to find out if any corn or other adjuncts are used). Regardless, this is a solid if unremarkable American lager that does provide some nice, light grain flavors and holds up well in the appearance department.
Update on the ingredients: from an email response from the brewery - "Thank you for taking the time to contact us, we always enjoy hearing from our fans. Our Leinenkugel’s Original is brewed with five different pale malts, both 2- and 6-row and we do use some corn in the brewing process."

this isnt a great beer, but in the context of other macro adjunct lager types, this is easily a league better than the major brands. it has a little more color, crystal clear but honey instead of yellow and watery, its fizzy and it holds its head, carbonation comes up slowly and consistently, it looks good for what it is. it has nice flavor too, i actually get some malt rather than its absence, which is sort of par for the course in the style. lightly sweet, but i taste barley, and that is something. almost no hops in nose or taste, but there is "beer flavor" here, and i get no metallic grossness, no corny cheapness, and no indefinite shelf life chemical properties whatsoever. i like it, crackery and round in feel, bubbly and balanced, the faintest bitterness creeping in at the end. it tastes like beer, even a lager yeast note here, its fine beer really, and when fresh, i reckon its mighty refreshing. without a doubt this is far better than any bud/miller/coors equivalent that exists out there, and one of the better leinenkugels beers ive had.

It is what it is a great fridge filler at $13.99 a case. Pours golden amber with a decent head that dissipates quick. Clean unimpressive taste. I throw an orange slice in for shits and giggles. This and Point Special Lager my go to home cheap beers. Local brewers can hardly go wrong

Best by March 31, 2014 marked on the neck of the bottle:

Pours golden with a nice white head. Trailing lace sticks.

The smell is of musty grain with a hint of soap.

The taste is of grainy malt, husk and a touch of soap. Virtually tasteless hops gives some dry balance to the sweetness in the finish.

Pretty crisp, a little fizz sticks to the tongue, but not too fizzy overall.

A bland lager with an odd, though mild, soapy undertone. Personally, if I had to choose, I would take Miller High Life over this. There are cheaper bland brews out there, too.

12oz can poured into Leinenkugel 2004 Challenge on the Chain Pint glass
A: Pours a golden body that is full of carbonation and clear. The white head settles slowly, but is left on the glass with nice lacing and good head retention.
S: A grainy norm for the style, nothing is too overly interesting, but quality none the less.
T/M: The standard for the style, with a bright spice on the mouthfeel that is smooth and refreshing, while the underlining tastes of malty character are expressing a Leinekugel's classic taste. The off taste is a short, quick off the palate sweetness.
D: I find this to be a good, drinkable beer for the style, one that is easy to put down and does make me want to have more (not that I could say that about most Adjuncts). Great in cans and represents the style in good fashion.

A: Clear pale yellow with lots of ripping carbonation bubbles. Decent sized eggshell colored head that dies off quickly. Has a decent amount of sticky lacing actually.

S: Sweet grain and corn. Adjunct sweetness. A little bitterness too.

T: Light malt and bitter hops. Cereal grain sweetness. Finishes a little dry. Nothing special at all, but as expected. Could be a lot worse.

M/D: Light body. Pretty thin and watery. Carbonation is on the higher side. Pretty easy drinking though. Probably would be one of my top adjunct lager choices, especially being pretty local.

I am reviewing the Yuengling Lager vs. the leinenkugel Original Lager. My brother-in-law who loves Yuengling needed a substitute since yuengling is not sold in Michigan. I offered him a taste test and Linenkugels won.

A: Crystal clear amber color. Thin 1/8 inch head dissipates fast. Zero lacing
S: BMC but with some maltiness. Bit earthy.
T: Sweet grainy maltiness touch of carmel malt. Zero bitterness
M: Better mouth feel than BMC but still somewhat thin.
D: This is very drinkable improvement to BMC. But I would drink this over many other offerings.

Overall Score: 3.20

A: Golden. crystal clear. Thin 1/8 inch head. Stay around as a cap for the entire beer.
S: Super bland. Touch of grain and yeast.
T: A little sweet. Nice buttery graininess to it. Zero bitterness.
M: Medium mouth feel, somewhat creamy finishes wet. Very smooth the whole time.
D: Very drinkable, improvement on BMC.

Overall Score: 3.00

Both Not super good, but definatly inprovments on BMC. In the end Yuengling Wins by a slight margin.

I do not think these are all that similar to each other. My brother in a law is a Miller Light drinker who love Yuengling on vacation. I'm not surprised he liked Leinenkugels more, it is more like Miller Light to me.
