12oz bottle, from a search and destroy visit to Boise, ID, a few months past. Gotta love the label's 'Elevator' imagery, as it mimics the landscape of the southern Alberta communities in which I grew up.

This beer pours a hazy medium golden amber colour, with one finger of creamy, foamy pale beige head, which leaves some atoll arch lace around the glass as it settles. It smells upfront of citrus peel hops, followed by caramel/toffee malt, and some herbal, grassy bitterness. The taste is more citrus hops and caramel malt, and a bit of alcohol warming, but with a sidestep that weirdly differentiates this from its immediate neighbours - I can't quite nail it down, it's a bit herbal, and bit green, a bit yeasty, a bit well, Belgian! From little Belt, MT! The carbonation is back in the American realm, averagely normal, on the innocuous side, the body stolidly medium in weight, and pretty smooth under all the aforementioned uncertainty. It finishes sweetly caramelized, with the pre-existing caveat of Flanders' best subtle yeast and citrus offsets.

An interesting DIPA, fo sho - low ABV, low PAC NW influence, yet high drinkability - maybe I just couldn't stop taking another sip to help me figure out what this wraith of an Imperial IPA is all about.

A - mostly clear copper, one finger of off white head dissipated to a solid cover, some sheet lacing
S - caramel pastry aroma to start, some earthiness and grains seep through, very mild citrus
T - toffee and grainy maltiness jump out, quiclkly followed by earthy resin and pepper hops that hold throughout, with the peppery flavour really taking over on the finish
M - light with a decent carbonation kick, sweet and rich through the middle, with a pleasant bitter finish
O - at 7% is somewhat straddles the line between IPA and DIPA, there is no noticeable alcohol, and it is almost too balanced to be a true DIPA, but those are only technicalities, the truth is this is a solid brew that I could see becoming a semi regular 6-pack sessioner for me

Alcohol, loads of caramel and bread, more alcohol linger, grainy with moderate bitterness and a sweet lingering finish.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: murky medium orange-brown hue with lots of effervescence and a thin cap of light tan foam. Not bad, but a bit uninspiring.

Smell: sweet malt with a little bit of caramel character and good-sized hit of citrusy, piney hops. It's not bad, per se, but it is very homebrew-ey; it really reminds me of an extract beer.

Taste: the malt seems a little less sweet than the aroma, but it's still up there. There's a good hit of citrusy hops followed by a dose of less-tasty piney, resiny hops that just don't work as well against the malt. Bitterness is moderate for the style, and a little bit raspy. I really like the citrusy flavor up front, but the denouement leaves something to be desired.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a moderate carbonation and a rocky texture. Not really creamy, but pretty refreshing.

Overall: this isn't a bad beer, but I see no reason to really seek it out.

Props to joemcgrath27 for the hook up on this brew.

A - Pours a slightly hazy golden copper colour, finger of head with some retention and no real lacing.

S - Nose is dominated by musty citrus, hints of lemon iced tea, heavy caramel and a bready finish.

T - Musty caramel comes through alongside the earthy citrus hops, toasted bread, burnt sugar, and a bitter lemon rind finish.

M - Medium bodied, smooth and a touch of dryness.

O - A tasty DIPA that is mellow and easy drinking. Nicely balanced, though certainly doesn't fit the traditional flavour profile of the style.

Appearance - Pours an amber colour with a finger width of bubbly white head.

Smell - Citrus hops, caramel/toffee malts, plum.

Taste - Citrus hops, bready & caramel/toffee malts, and lot of dark fruits. A little cloying. Not your typical flavour palate for an Imperial IPA.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with light-to-moderate carbonation. A little sticky.

Overall - A little disappointed by this Imperial IPA in regards to flavour. Although the citrus hops presence is there, the dark fruits dominate and are very cloying on the palate.
