When the weather started to get nice, and summer was approaching sidetracks was one of the go to places to get an Oberon and eat a meal outside. Can get busy at night but it was one of my favorite places to go when the snow fell, very warm and inviting. I would sum it up as being a good stop anytime. food was good and a nice beer selection. Seemed like there was always a wait for the bathroom. the other room they had opened to private party's and i think i saw live music before helped its appeal. Sidetracks liked the quote "Beer is proof that god loves us and wants us to be happy" -Benjamin Franklin

Excellent Ypsi institution. Lots of beer options, and always a few good drafts on. Boombas are cheap at late-night happy hour. Great food, A couple fruit flies around the place as the weather warms up, but the burgers, black bean tacos, and bbers make up for it. Patio seating when the weather is nice. Right next to a train track that keeps the place rumbling when the Amtrak comes by.

Living about a mile from here, I'm here a lot and I'm not mad about that. In Depot Town, Ypsilanti, MI, Sidetrack sits right next to the train tracks with an Amtrak going by every couple hours. They are also expanding into the upstairs, supposedly more bar/restaurant space as well as loft apartments. 24 taps with a great selection focusing on Michigan beer.

Late night happy hour runs 9-1 Sunday and Monday, 10-1 Tues-Thurs and 11-1 Fri and Sat. $3.25 for tall or a pint, depending on the beer. Talls are huge, like 27 ounces. Liquor is also half off during happy hour.

Food is good, with an awesome selection--just about anything you would want. A couple of my favorites are the grilled cheese with bacon and a fried egg (ask for it--it's like six bucks with fries), or the gorgonzola tenderloin at 12 bucks is pretty hard to beat for the price.

Only major downfall is the service--even sitting at the bar sometimes you can be ignored for what seems like forever. It's definitely hit or miss, but unfortunately it's usually a miss here. But for the prices, especially on happy hour, it's typically not enough to keep me away.

This place is great. Great tap list, lots of Michigan beers. The also have a late night happy hour with all beer half off(11pm-1am). Unlike other reviewers, I think the food here is great. Their sweet potato fries are incredible. Burgers are good. They have a pretty wide ranging selection as well as plenty of vegan and vegetarian grub. Overall, this is an awesome place, especially in the summer. Sitting outside as the Amtrak flies by is a unique experience.

***Bad Score Based on Food and Waitstaff....

I actually quite like the place as a's just the food and the waitstaff that does this place in. The bar crowd, although usually kinda old (Ypsi is an old town), is usually quite friendly and willing to strike up a converstation.

The beer selection, especially for Depot Town (the area in Ypsi) is very good, usually focusing on Michigan brews, some beers from outside of the state, and then some of the usual bar staples (Guinness, etc.)

A good place to get a brew, but the food is decent at best. Supposedly the burger is beloved by Oprah, but I think she missed the mark on it. Rest of the food is bar/pub staples, nothing much more than that.

I've been in Ypsi on business and I've eaten here a lot lately, all at lunchtime which can get fairly crowded. The atmosphere is lively and has interesting decor. The food is always good and I like the pickles and pepperoncini at the table. I would recommend the burgers and the fish tacos. Also they've got 3 kinds of fries which are all good. They've got a pretty decent selection of draft beer, highlighting MI brews. I certainly would recommend this to anyone in the area.
I'm going to try to go for dinner when I have time to sample from the decent number of taps they have.

Well, it's been a good long while since this place got a review so I figured I'd jump into the fray.

Frankly I'm pretty surprised at how low the scores are here. The only thing I can think is this spot has improved somewhat significantly. This bar is housed in a 19th century downtown style brick building with many original elements still in place including the floors and door/window sills and it is very well maintained. This place has got a lot of character from it's physical appearance down to it's interesting menu specials. I'm particularly fond of the Michigan cherry salad and the summer cold plate specials. The BBQ pork sandwich is also quite good. Their burgers have been voted among the best on numerous occasions as well. The beer selection is very good, some of the tap line-up highlights at my last visit: (from memory)

GLBC Edmund Fitz
Corner Brewing Espresso Love Stout
Frog Island Creme Ale
Bell's Oberon
Bell's Two-Hearted
Dark Horse Raspberry Ale

There were probably another half dozen or so as well with bottled offerings as well. Prices are reasonable and the outdoor seating areas make this a great summer lounge spot. The staff I've found to be generally quick and friendly with just a few exceptions.

Overall this is a great place to stop by if you are in the area. I might even go out of my way to come here, on some occasions I forego the A2 options altogether and opt for this place instead. It's not Ashley's, but it's got some things going for it that Ashley's doesn't, notably it's own parking lots!

Stayed in Ypsilanti prior to this past August Nascar race. Very busy on a Friday night. We must have waited 30 minutes prior to being seated in the outdoor section. Food was very standard pub fare, however the portions tended to be oversized for the price. The beer list was limited. I ordered a sampler selection of six beers, but my servers commentary was interupted by the 6:30 p.m. Chicago-Detroit Amtrak train. The Bells Oberon was by far the standout of the selection and I treated myself to a giant pint. Very friendly staff (In fact I find everyone in the Wolverine State extremely cordial). Worth the visit if you're in the area.

Coming round the bend of Cross street, straight across from the classic car museum, Sidetracks is the ivy covered building with parking in back. A bar with its own parking lot? I'd forgotten that such a thing could exist! Granted its the dead of summer, so Eastern Michigan U. is not in full swing, but there were plenty of spaces to choose from. Small detail but a big plus.

Beautiful old brick building that looks like its been a bar for quite some time, very high ceilings and with a snaking narrow passage from front to back. Inside decor is dark, old wood with low lighting over an interesting mix of wall paraphenalia but not in the faux-style of a chain. Mostly Michigania with the obligatory moosehead. But if its nice out, even barely so, you absolutely must sit outside - three separate areas with distinctly different feels. The side of the building is almost completely covered in ivy which plays nicely off the wrought-iron fencing and the beautifully restored brick. Atmosphere wins on the outdoor seating alone - don't think I'd visit in the dead of winter to be stuck inside.

Draught selection is lots of macros with "fine imports" like Smithwicks and so on, but every single half-decent local micro like Bell's was kicked. Sucks, though the bottle selection has a healthy selection of Arcadia and other small locals, some imports from Unibroue, the occasional Belgian, yet at least two dozen industrial lagers, too. Prices are great with 25 oz. draught beers only $3 during happy hour, which is both in the afternoon as well as after 11 pm every day of the week. That ain't shabby! Surprisingly nice Scotch selection, too.

Service was good and they were fairly informed about the beers. Food was decent, a little skimpy on portions but not bad. Has a much larger menu than expected and the kitchen is fully open until midnight. In all, a nice spot and the best for beer in the Depot Town section of Ypsilanti.

The Sidetrack Bar and Grill is located in Ypsilanti's Historic "Depot Town" on Cross Street. Its a corner bar that is housed in a building that goes back to the 19th century. The beer selection is quite decent, with quite a few Michigan micro and other regional offerings on bottle and tap. The food is good, but not spectacular. Make this a stop if you are in Ypsilanti (pronounced ip-sill-lan-tee) during the summer months and sit outside. The Michigan Summer Beer Festival is held at Riverside Park right down the street, so you can always continue drinking Michigan beer here after the festival ends...

This bar has 2 seperate sides. One side has a larger bar, fireplace and a bit more inviting atmosphere. The other side feels a bit cold and doesn't provide the atmosphere of the main side. Service was good. Waitresses knew what beers they had and a little about them. 16 beers on tap were a nice assortment of imports and regional craft beers, no macros. Decent size bottle selection complements the draft choices. Typical bar and grill type food. I'd go there again for the beer, but the food wouldn't draw me back. If you're someone like me who's not in the area often, I would hit Ashley's in Ann Arbor first. I preferred the atmosphere, food, and huge tap selection at Ashley's. Sidetrack is certainly worth checking out, though.
