Sampling right now on 3/6/14. From the Asahi Breweries Ltd (by Molson) in Ontario, Canada. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a Irish imperial pint glass.

Pours a pale gold in color with a small thin head that settles down to around the top of the brew. Some spotty lacing is seen. Lots of small streaming bubbles rise up from the bottle during the whole drink. The light aroma is just of some grains with a hint of sweet corn. The taste clean with a dry slightly bitter finish. With the high carbonation, the aftertaste is a bit on the 'stinging' side, which is over done. Overall, not a great beer.

Served and poured at table in chilled Pilsener glass at Aji Japanese Restaurant, Bayshore,N.Y.

Aroma is slightly grassy. Pours pale yellow with a decent off white head. Slightly laced glass to about a third on way down,( Pilsener).

Taste is mild, no particular character! Similar to a non alcoholic brew or very watered down lager! At least it is better than the sliced pickled ginger to clear the palate between courses!

Not great nor unpleasant, to summarize : Meh-Ok!

Very pale gold color, bordering on straw. Soapy foam top is white and thin. Massive can adds to the appearance.

Lightly sweet malted grain with a faint corn note. Obviously, there's rice in here and it helps dry out the aroma. Not a whole lot going on, otherwise.

Firm bitterness for the style. I like the crispy dryness and added carbonation to counter the light grain sweetness. Awesome drinkability. Rice offers character. Works to be palatable with most foods. Almost versatile.

I love the 33.8oz can. I'll have to get a Sapporo Premium soon to compare. It's not a terrible style for cheap, after all.

Asahi Super Dry – Rice Lager (5%) - Asahi Brewing Co. (Japan)
☆☆ ½

App: Pours a crystal clear golden color with a slight dingy looking off white head that settles quickly leaving no lacing, but does boast some okay retention around the edges of the glass. Darker than a lot of american lagers.

Smell: Nose is grainy and firmly cereal with some high, grassy sweetness and just a hint of maltiness coming through. Slightly metallic smelling, bouquet is low.

Taste: Clean, grain like sweetness with mild bitterness that is fairly well balanced against the overall sweet nature of this beer. A little vegetal, with a mild metallic finish. Slight toasted flavor as beer warms slightly. Not a complex beer by any means, but certainly drinkable. Not as sweet or metallic as a lot of american lagers.

Mouth: Carbonation is extreme and somewhat stinging. Beer is incredibly light bodied with some slight lingering bitterness and sweetness that are pleasant.

Disclaimer: Not brewed in Japan, much to my chagrin it was brewed in Canada. Doh!

Home tasting, 12oz bottle into snifter. 2/18/14.
