The rice in place of barley lends a very clean profile to this beer. This works better for me in high-summer, outside of which it can come across as rather character-less.

Had this beer many years ago but just had to try it again because it is much different from whatever Asahi usually brews.
It is said to be an Okinawan beer and I haven't proved it but what I can say for sure that it is quite good! Looks nice and golden, smells quite neutral which is not bad at all. It tastes very nice and clear too, refreshing and good for an adjunct type. I am actually quite satisfied with this beer.
Of course this would not stand the test among the best of the crafts but for what it is, a commercial lager, it is very well done and tastes very pleasant.
Was the best to close 2017 with this beer.

Poured from an 11.2 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is virtually odorless, not much of anything. Taste is mild, some malts, bland, finishes dry. Feels light in the mouth and overall this beer is very weak and not worth seeking out.

I agree with the previous review, so I won't go into detail. Just wanted to add that I have tried 7 or 8 of Asahi's various flavors and they are indeed pretty much the same. For some reason, I keep buying the special editions or ones that I don't see as often, as was the case with the Orion, but they always let me down. Compared to most other average Japanese beers, Asahi is definitely done well, but for a girl who grew up on micros from the Pacific NW and watched Ninkasi get started, they all lack complexity.

A: Slightly bright tea golden orange. Has an almost medicinal look. Uniform mild rising carbonation, but no head. Transparent.
S: Ricey malt, implies honey, light to medium degree of fragrance.
T/M: Dry, which implies a sourness, very mild carbonation, fiarly light in flavor, or weak rather. certainly tea like, more on the bitter side, not sweet. There is a sourness to it but not a specific flavor attached to that sourness.
O: Uninteresting, not special. I haven't tried very many of Asahi's 40 or so varieties, but part of me wonders if the rest are similar.
