Oak Creek Nut Brown AleOak Creek Nut Brown Ale
Notes: Winner of both the Gold and Bronze Medal in the North American Brewers' Association competition. This northern Arizona favorite has a consistent nutty flavor with just a hint of spice in its depths. A slowly emerging bitterness crops up along the way and is unobtrusively incorporated into the smooth flow. It finishes with a gentle nuttiness and spiciness.

Appearance: Brown body with slight red highlights. Nice creamy khaki head.
Smell: Fresh nutty aroma. Toasty grain. Fresh grains. No hops. At all.
Taste: Toasted hazelnut flavor at beginning is amazing, if you like that flavor. Taste is nutty and has a creaminess to it. Malt backbone is stong and really allows the nuttiness to come through.
Mouthfeel: Full on tongue, but not heavy. One word: smooth.
Drinkability: Really, one word. SMOOTH.

Pouring this beer and breathing the aroma lead you in to what you bill be tasting. No surprises. A brown ale with a strong malt presence with delicious nutty flavors throughout. The finish is a little short.

A very good brown ale. Excellent maltiness.

Poured out of the bottle. Color and overall appearance was promising with a nice tan head. Some toasted notes in the nose, but not as nutty as I would have expected. I found the flavor to lack complexity, especially in the malt character and minimal contribution from the yeast. Perhaps the sample had been on the store shelf too long

Mahogany, tea-like, up to the light. 1/2 a finger of eggshell head that fades fast with minor spotty lacing. It does smell like roasted nuts, so that's a good sign. Also a bit of that classic brown ale smell, but not a dark roasted rich smell. Malty and a bit sweet. There is a bit of an off/rotten flavor in this. Malt and bread crust. Average carbonation, dry on finish and medium thin body. Approaching a drain pour because of this nasty rotten meat flavor. Yuck.
