Petrus Aged Pale is a 100% beer from our foeders. Michael Jackson, the beer hunter, chose the name in the late 1990s – and he was the first to sell this beer in his beer clubs. Today, it is still the reference for sour beers in the US. Petrus Aged Pale has won multiple gold medals in beer competitions worldwide. Moreover, ever since the start of the brewery, the beer has been used as a blending-beer with other beers to give them fresh, slightly sour flavors and aromas.

Aged in Oak foeders for over 24 months

330ml can into a teku. Best I can tell, was canned September 2022, so almost a year in the can on top of 2 years in a foeder.

Decent look, hazy pale yellow body, persistent head, streaks of lacing. Full aroma, slightly funky and yeasty. Sour and slightly tart taste with a side of funk. Quite drying in the finish. Nice enough drink, happy to have another 5 cans in reserve.

L: Hazy, orange brown body, white fizzy head.
S: Sour apricot, white grape, spices (cinnamon, cloves) oak.
T: Quite tart upfront. Lemon and white grape, then cloves and salt, plenty of oak, then green apple, and hops that poke through on the finish. Tart for sure, but enough fruity sweetness to balance it nicely.
F: Sharp at first, acidic, sour, but smooth nonetheless.
O: Lots of complexity to enjoy, strong tasting for sure but quite delicious.

Bought a single 11.2oz bottle $5.99 Village Bottle Shop
9337 A 15:21 on bottle
Smells like chardonnay, wet lemon peel from a crack seed store
Medium-high carbonation
Cloudy golden-orange color
Taste is really sour. Bottle says sour scale if 5/5 and they are right. Flavor of chardonnay, lemons, pepper, salt, very tart
Overall this tastes like it is well crafted for the style. Slow sipper, good after a heavy meal.

Clear, golden/amber appearance with a small white head and little lacing. Tart, green apple aroma with a hint of vinegar. Taste is acerbic, fruity, earthy, vinous to a degree. Wonderfully complex, shifting flavors. Dry, woodsy, long lasting finish.

Staying with the Belgium beer this wild ale is next. I used a tulip glass and the temperature was 44 degrees. The pour created a massive three-fingered head with average retention. The white head is airy and foamy. Some lacing was left on the glass as it dissipated. . The color is SRM 6, pale straw with amber hues. The beer is clear with a few carbonation bubbles dancing within.

The initial aromas in the beer are apple cider, oak, crackers. Nosing further, I detect lightly toasted malts, fruity esters, a touch of horse blanket, straw, a hint of a funky barn, and damp earth.

The flavors do not match that of the nose. I was expecting huge apple cider but got more oak and horse blanket. I get some apple sourness, with lemons, and floral esters, a touch of funky barnyard, and lightly toasted malts.

The mouthfeel of the beer is tannic, sour, but crisp.

The body of the beer is medium, high carbonation, and medium finish.

I am on the fence with beer. The nose was stellar and I was wanting what I was smelling, yet the flavors were excellent in their own way too. Crisp beer with some drying makes for a refreshing beer. I enjoyed it.

#1735 - Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)…
L- Mid+ amber, filtered, pours with a 3mm ultra-fine bubble white head.
S- Wow does this smell sour. It's not often I smell the sour note but here it is loud and clear.
T- Sour, earthy, rustic, fruit-vinegar notes. Like a batch of home-brew that's gone very wrong and tastes it.
F- Sour, bitter, the carbonation comes over as almost sherbety.
O- I imagine this style caters to a very defined and particular taste, and that blind-tasted on say 100 beer fans around the world that a large majority of them would demand WTH this thing is since it tastes like a sour-fruit drink rather than a beer. This rates here as 92% - wow. It works for many it seems, but for me it seems pretty obnoxious on the palate, I don't get the acidic sour recipe at all. Shame... not one I'd wish to drink again.
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the bottle lables to see what I missed! ==> Aged for 2 years in oak, a 'reference' sour beer.
330ml bottle BB: 29-07-2022 £4.15 Bought from BelgianBeerCompany, Stoke/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
