Notes / Commercial Description:
Petrus Aged Pale is a 100% beer from our foeders. Michael Jackson, the beer hunter, chose the name in the late 1990s – and he was the first to sell this beer in his beer clubs. Today, it is still the reference for sour beers in the US. Petrus Aged Pale has won multiple gold medals in beer competitions worldwide. Moreover, ever since the start of the brewery, the beer has been used as a blending-beer with other beers to give them fresh, slightly sour flavors and aromas.

Aged in Oak foeders for over 24 months

Appearance: Quickly dissipating, eggshell white head, with spotted and crusty lacing. Opaque straw color.

Nose: Baking soda, cherries, and clean wood chips/lumber, and pineapple.

Taste: Sour and perfectly carbonated. A malt backbone that saves your tastebuds. A little bit of vanilla and oak.

Notes: It is very subtle and gentle, especially for a sour. I am not a fan of sour beers, but I found myself more interested in this with every sip.
Perhaps a perfect introduction to sour beers?

Pours light and golden - like a pilsner - into a proper glass at Duckworth's Park Rd location, Charlotte NC. All drafts $3.50 on this lovely Thursday.

Little to no head and slight lacing on this well carbonated brew, smelling a bit of vinegar and wood. Wonderful vinegar tartness. Easily one of the better sour brews I've had - it's well balanced. Great introductory tart brew for newbies. Dangerously drinkable for 7.3%.

Pours a clear medium to dark yellow with a quarter inch head that reduces to half of that and then persists.

Smell is of light citrus and cow barn. Not optimistic at this point.

Taste is acidic up front but it mellows to interesting crisp fruit flavor, apples and citrus.

Mouth feel is light and crisp, with long lasting bubbles.

Overall, I wouldn't need to revisit this offering very often.

Appearance- Pours a small head, which quickly fades. The color is a dull pale and a bit cloudy.

Smell - Robust tartness

Taste- Fruit flavors, which quickly give way to a clean sourness.

Mouthfeel- Light bodied and clean.

Overall- Good sour. Ultimately lacks complexity, but the sourness is pronounced

Good, maybe even good+, but not as good as the yardstick that is Cascade Brewing.

Sufficiently sour but would prefer more so, non-fruity taste. About the best sour beer that I've been able to find out here in the midwest.

I do recommend, and I would buy again.
