It may be called Oud Bruin, but this beer pours very dark, almost black; reddish-brown highlights shine through, as well as significant carbonation, with a light background. Nice two-finger tan head, very lively, with OK retention and lacing.

Slightly sour and tart aroma, with heavy tannins, tobacco, oak, and some light funk. Wine-like sharp quality, but just enough wheat/barley to balance it out.

Initial flavor is that light funk (a little malty or cheese-like), but it's very pleasant, and immediately followed by a complex series of flavors: sourness/tartness, fruit - including cherries and raspberries, and a bit of banana and red grapes - tons of tannins, straw; and more. Very complex, but well-balanced and extremely tasty profile.

If there's a weakness on this beer, it's probably the feel. It just comes across as a little thin and watery, while the liveliness comes across as some slight foaming. There's a nice slick residue helping bring this beer to the finish.

This is a very tasty and fairly light Flanders red or brown ale. It's not as refined as Rodenbach, but it fits the bill quite well, and has a complex and pleasing taste profile. Absolutely worth picking up if the price is right.

2012 bottle.

Color- unfiltered mahogany. Slight head.

Aroma- gentle sweet sour with hint of cherries.

Taste- Starts smooth and silky with active carbonation adding to a light body, mildly sour with faint hints of tart cherry with subtle hint of vanilla (likely from the barrel aging). Compared to Oud Bruin from Verzet, this is far more refined.

Poured with foamy tan head settles into cap. Moderate lacing that subsides
Dark Caramel, cola like – 85% opaque copper hue. Effervescent.
Plum/raison aroma,
Slight sour tang, rides off tongue with a grape finish. Stone fruit and Oak notes.
Tingly, dry-ish … Sort of thin.
Overall: refreshing and drinkable. Would enjoy 2-3 in a sitting.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 10/3/2013. Pours lightly hazy very dark ruby red color with a 2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with solid retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of big grape, pear, apple, raisin, cherry, oak, clove, red wine, vinegar, herbal, hay, musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Nice aromas with good complexity and solid balance of fruity/funky yeast and oak barrel notes; with solid strength. Taste of grape, pear, apple, cherry, raisin, red wine, vinegar, oak, musty funk, herbal, hay, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Minimal tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of light fruits, cherry, raisin, red wine, vinegar, musty funk, oak, hay, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a bit. Nice complexity and balance of fruity/funky yeast flavors; with decent flavor robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a good Flanders brown. Nice balance/complexity and decent robustness of yeast flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Very sour smelling like bottle lemon juice. Tart vinagar or lactic acid or maybe both who knows. Some lean dark fruits, malts and yeassty easter in the nose.
Pours with a gargantuan head and spotty lacing. The color is clear ruby brown.
The taste is very acidic and sour with vinagar. Some dark fruits and malts too but fades to water almost as the sourness subsides.
Feels thin on the palate.
A bit disappointing because the bold sour, vinagar taste is quite refreshing, but after that there really is nothing else.
