Hazy brown color with a thick beige head with medium retention.
Aroma with lots of prunes, brown sugar, grapes, apple puree, mild clove and mint.
Flavor with notes of prunes, spicy hops, cinnamon, ginger, Brazilian guarana, grape juice, chocolate and nuts. Dry aftertaste with a low bitterness.
Medium body with velvety carbonation of tiny bubbles. Alcohol of 6.5% is completely absent.
Initially spicy Dubbel that becomes chocolaty with lots of prunes. Pleasant, average complexity and flavor intensity.

Pours a dark brown and leaves the same color body with a two finger white foamy head, not much lacing is seen; the aroma has some nutty super malty and rich, lotsa brown sugar coming through; the taste is super malty sweet kinda like "brown sugar candy with a malty aftertaste and finish; its pretty easy on the palate could be construed as a bit thin, but still good, carbonation is soft; overall, I say still a good beer worthy of coming back to.

A bargain beer, and a reasonably solid beverage. A slight vinegar aroma, which also lingers in the after taste. A Brun, but a bit wishy washy to look at, with a sharp fizz on the tongue. You won't be getting too sozzled on this one, and there are much better beers to consume, but for the price worth sticking a few in the cellar for a winters day by the fire.

Look: 3.25
Hazy dark copper color. 2-finger head. Not much carbonation. The foam fades quite quickly. There is a slight red hue.

Smell: 3.75
Sweet caramel and toffee. Also graham cracker and roasted malt.

Taste: 4
Slight hoppiness at first (hardly noticeable), but then jumps right into caramel and toffee. Very sweet. Starts to get a bit nutty and roasted malts apparent. Belgian yeast tang is not strong, but makes itself known.

Feel: 3.75
Fairly full / upper medium body. Even through seems to go flat, still enough carbonation on the tongue.

Overall: 3.75
It was decent. Not my favorite of this style and there are better ones out there. It is quite sweet.

Enjoyed from the teeny tiny bottle in a snifter via a friend from work----Thanks Tony!

This nice dubbel pours a lightly cloudy reddish brown with a nice head of off with foam that settles to a thick ring, light little pool, and light lacing. Nose of sweet candy sugars, light cherry, light dates, and fresh bread. Flavors lightly exceed the nose with sweet brown sugar and sweet fresh baked bread on the front and middle with notes of cherries that fade into the back, vanilla on the sides, and a nice plum note on the back. Nice mouth feel with medium carbonation is lightly prickly, coating, and finishes sweet and subtly dry. Very nice.

Cheers

Always happy to try a new beer from Belgium.

According to the bottle this is "The Key to Heaven". The old man on the bottle looks pretty happy so I hope I will be as happy as him soon.

Look, not the best as it seems a bit too thin, and not much head.

Aroma is malty, not very complex.

Feel is very thin, watery.

Taste is ok though quite simple. A little too fizzy, no depth.

Am I as happy as the man on the bottle..? In a word, no. Def a bit dissapointed, especially as it's from Belgium.
