500ml bottle poured into Sam Adams pint glass.

Pours a murky dark brown with half a finger of tan head that leaves sparse blotchy lace as it recedes.

Smells of banana bread, roasted almond, toffee pudding, candied fig and date, brown sugar and soft milk chocolate. Threatening alcohol.

Tastes of browning banana, sweet dark nutty bread, more roasted almond, candied dark fruit, maple syrup, spiced rum cake, milk chocolate and warming alcohol.

Feels thick and creamy. Full bodied with silky carbonation. Finishes sweet and warm.

Verdict: Vigorously recommended. A sprawling feast of a beer.

500ml bottle format – Imperial pilsner style glass
Picked this up at Bottle Craft in Little Italy - Last noted on 10/04/15

Stoked to finally tick this style and not disappointed with my purchase here

The pour yields a turbid and tawny looking body. Leaning towards a light chestnut in color. A serious mass of spongy tan head is produced with insane retention efforts. Looks like you can balance a quarter on top. There is a mixed trellis formation of lace that gets left clinging to my glass.
The nose brings a complex malt mixture of darkened breads, toasted almond, toffee nougat, and gooey caramelized fruits like fig and plum. There is a faint hint of mineral and spice added with banana. Reminiscent of baked banana bread really.
Malt seems fortified in the flavor. Very complex while maintaining a very smooth façade. Loads of darkened sweetbreads and dried fruits with toffee/caramel nougat and treacle. Firm moments of dark cherry, plum, fig, and red currant. Getting some faint milk chocolate to this as well. There is an earthy hop touch to it and some frequent pops of musky yeast with an unobtrusive banana and clove likeness. I get a wash of alcohol warmth in the finish that is rather comforting here. A real nice winter sipper I would think. Thick and filling with the strange phenomenon of no seemingly so. Has a lighter real ale quality that I find quite quaffable.
Such an impressive brew. It is sweet without being a saccharin bomb, thick without being too tacky/syrupy, boozy without being too harsh.
Tows the line between a bull in the china shop and elegant finesse. Either way I treasured this Ale immensely.

Beer pours a somewhat murky brown color that turns to black in the glass. Some brown highlights, no red. Creamy and sticky head.

Aroma of alcohol, intense toast and malt aroma. Tones of melandoidin, toffee, dark fruits. No hop aroma.

Balanced to the sweet side with a boozy finish. Full bodied and smooth in your mouth. Warning from the alcohol. Dark fruit. Toffee.

This is an amazing beer. If it were not for the high alcohol it would be a nightly treat.

This is a brew you must try. Full bodied, complex, smooth, rich unfiltered hefe. This drinks like a high quality product. The fruits and banana are priority.

Brown with sharp, bubbly head. Smells of honey, mint, malt, a hints of pepper and cloves. Tastes of peaches, plums, caramel, and honey. A mild peppery bite. There a nice, hot, alochol burn that is balanced by the carbonation. Overall, a very rich, flavorful, and powerful beer.

Bottled 4/24/13; drank 10/5/14 @ the Yarchives.

Poured from the bottle into a glass.

Muddy diarrhea brown hue with tons of flotsam; champagne bubbles.

Tan head; minimal lace.

Black pepper, banana, clove & booze heat in the nose.

Medium thick, creamy mouthfeel.

Nutmeg, cinnamon, coconut & coffee notes up front; mocha emerges as it warms. Bold & enjoyable, but one's enough.
