Chilled bottle into a tulip. Bottled 3/4/15
Pours a very dark orangey-red brown. No light penetrates to speak of. I see the color, and a slight haziness, once the glass is almost drained. Light off-white head, that dissipates after a minute or so.
Aroma is mostly booze (brandy?) with a hint of dried stone fruit.
The first sip is almost all that boozy flavor, so let it warm to almost room temperature. Then it starts to shine. Flavor is somewhere between a quad & a barleywine. I.e. stone fruit/apricot brandy + alt + sweetness, a (light) syrupy feel, & noticeable alcohol, with slight warming.Very fine , and noticeable carbonation settles and lingers on/near the tip of the tongue. Very good, but a once-in-a-while thing.Very satisfying, so one is enough. :)

This is a definite one and done beer. Delicious and entirely reminiscent of a quad or belgian dark with a little extra roastiness. Its thick, with an early on tantilizing sweetness that soon emerges to borderline cloying. All 11.2 ounces from across the pond will have you full and satisfied short and sweet.

From a chilled bottle, pours a dark brown with a (for me) thin head that quickly disappeared. Aroma is mostly a clove-heavy spiciness. Taste is more malt forward, but there are a variety of interesting "spice" flavors … the only one I can actually name (sorry) is "cloves".

This pours an opaque dark chocolate brown color with a thin white fizzy head. The smell is quite unique and complex. It is also a fairly sweet and malt heavy smell with elements of wheat, chocolate, toffee, and alcohol. The taste is also very unique and absolutely amazing. There is of course a wheat flavor (hence the weizen), but there are so many other strong flavors that it comes across fairly mild compared to other weizen beers that I have had. The flavor, like the smell, is quite malty and very rich with dark chocolate, brown bread, espresso, toffee, rum, cloves, and alcohol coming through the most. It’s not so surprising that the alcohol is pronounced since this beer is a very hearty 12%. The mouthfeel is incredibly smooth and creamy. The body is quite heavy. Maybe not as much as a full bodied stout or porter, but it’s certainly approaching those. This beer has everything I like: full body, strong complex flavors, and high alcohol content. They don’t get much better or more multifaceted than this. I don’t think anything is lost from the amazing flavor of Unser Aventinus during the icing process and you pack an extra 4% alcohol in there. Even though this beer is quite well rated, in my opinion it is still underrated.

Pours a deep dark brown with lots of chunky sediment. Head was about an inch, but disappeared pretty quickly. Smell is a nice blend of malt, clove, and fruit. Heavy booze on the finish. Taste is bold grains, with toffee and caramel. Lots of fruit on this one, including pear, grape, and banana. Not expecting how sweet the flavor would be. Does a good job masking the alcohol. Mouthfeel is very heavy, with a creamy texture and medium carbonation. Alcohol leaves a lingering warm feeling. For any dark beer advocates, this is a great option. Be warned however, this beer is a beast.

L: Pours a murky brown with a lot of chunks, half finger head
S: Banana, cloves, chalky, vanilla, half baked bread, sweet malt
T: A hefewiezen on steroids, you can really taste the alchohl in this one, packs a sweet malty boozy punch, aftertaste is clean
F: Very heavy, quite thick, low carbonation, creamy
O: A very heavy beer that would be good with a large steak, worth a try
