750ml Bottle from the Ottawa LCBO for $10 - 2011 edition

Appearance - Slightly hazy amber colour with an average size fizzy white coloured head. There is a high amount of carbonation showing and there isn't much lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes.

Smell - Hops, corn, ginger, breads/grains

Taste & Mouth - There is a below average amount of carbonation and I can taste corn, apples, and bread/grains. There are also some green grapes and a touch of ripe banana. It ends with a ripe fruit aftertaste.

Overall – Not sure if this beer is a little past it's prime, but it's still very good. Not something that stands out to me as something I need to buy again though. Happy to have tried.

A: Pours a hazy gold with a thick white head.

S: Aromas of banana, clove, heavy cream, and wheat are underpinned by traces of tropical fruit.

T: Notes of heavy cream, wheat toast, banana, clove, vanilla bean, lemon, grapefruit zest, bitter orange, pomace, and guanabana wash across the palate. The finish is long and fruity with a pleasant combination of wheat, cream, banana, lemon, and pomace notes.

M: Light-to-medium bodied and somewhat slick. Carbonation is very gentle. Alcohol presence is minimal.

O: This is a nice weizenbock, but I don't really see how it is all that different from Schneider's other products. I know that they are using Nelson Sauvin hops in this beer, but in all honesty, the tropical fruit flavors of the hops are pretty subdued. So, I guess I don't really understand what all the fuss is about. That being said, this is still an enjoyable weizenbock. It's just not great.

750 ml brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into an EKU 28 snifter in low altitude Los Angles, California. Reviewed from notes. Expectations are high given this beer's reputation.

A: Pours a one and half finger head of fair cream and thickness, and pretty good retention. Colour is a murky dark yellow.

Sm: Wheat, floral notes, light hops, hints of sourness, some fruit esters, and a light lactic hint. A mild strength aroma.

T: Orange peel, light floral notes, a brief hint of sourness, some lactic notes. Well balanced and built. Fresh and pleasant. Refreshing. Some apple; maybe pear. The wheat foundation is well handled and suits the balance nicely.

Mf: Smooth and wet, suiting the flavours well. Not too thick nor too thin. A bit overcarbonated perhaps.

Dr/Ov: Drinkable. Very pleasant and enjoyable. The alcohol hardly comes through at all.

Appearance:
Hazy gold [hint of red gold]. Very thin and disappearing white head.

Nose:
Fruity yeast, with bready undertones.

Tongue:
Yeasty and balanced taste - neither too sweet, nor too sour; after first impression, some floral bitterness.

Mouthfeel:
Refreshing, though concentrated, medium however fantastic integrated carbonation.

Afterthoughts:
There is a pleasant alcohol warmth [not a burn] recognizable - most bitterness is fading away, though an agreeable trace is over several minutes detectable.

Overall:
Unique beer - from start to the end - it is even sold in a nice but uncommon 0.75l bottle [rather a prosecco bottle]. Not necessary 100% my taste, but better than most other wheats. Thumbs up!

Bottle #31244

Appearance. Pours a hazy yellow gold with two fingers of frothy white head, decent retention.

Smell. Green apples, clove and fruity Belgian yeast, banana, some light wheaty malt, and faint whiffs of pineapple and lime.

Taste. Fruity Belgian yeast, clove, some banana and earthy hops, just a bit of orchard and tropical fruits.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body, soft medium carbonation.

Overall. Nice stuff, but not as nice as the Vitus I had recently.

Beer is cloudy dark golden with a large white head.

Scent consists of sticky tropical fruit, banana, floral notes, wheat malt and honey.

Taste-wise, there is tropical fruit (mango, pineapple), wheat, some bitterness from the hops. Sweet malt, banana. Nice twist on a weizen.

Full bodied, moderate carbonation. Low for the style. Bready.

Overall, good. The Nelson Sauvin hop has a huge impact. Nice stuff.

A - a lot like a full bodied hefe. Towering head, cloudy beneath. A hint of pink in a dull orange amber.

S - floral and fruity hops, wheat, banana, clove, bubblegum.

T - nicely layered, white grape and grapefruit up front, banana, spice and bubblegum to back up.

M - full chewy body, as can be expected from this quality brewery.

O - a rare sight in these parts, it wasnt cheap but no regrets here. Very nice drop.
