.5L, best before 7/7/11.

Pours a light, hazy orange with a brilliant head. Great lacing of thick and creamy eggshell goodness.

The aroma is straight-up yeasty and bready. Nice floral character.

The flavor is not great. There is a bitter-yeasty note that this stuff just can't overcome. The limited banana and spice character can't do it. Nor can the wheaty sweetness. Watery mouthfeel is somewhat improved by the effervescent and smooth carb.

Looks like a million bucks, but tastes like about 50 cents. Unbalanced and sub-par for the style.

Slightly hazy yellow appearance, with a white, compact, beautiful head.
The first note is banana, but not cloying. Light cloves, yeast, and wheat.
There are all the typical hefeweizen flavour.
And all well amalgamated, without any peak.
Lightly citric notes in the aftertaste, and yeast.
Drinkable and pleasant.

540th Review on BA
Bottle to Weizen
500 Ml
Best By 2/4/11

Thanks to a vendor of mine whose family
brought this from Germany and he shared his extra bottle.

App- Hazy light wheat yellow with a puffy two finger head. The cling is a bit minimal. As i drink the head simply moves sideways to allow a sip.

Smell- I sense this has declined quite a bit. The yeast is there but off to me. A basic wheat beer smell. Missing the bubblegum and lightness to it.

Taste- Seems like this is just very old. Not fresh, peppy with that yeasty crispness. Its a but a thought of what I hoped this could be.
More peppery thick as well.

Mouth- Medium bodied and medium carbonated. Its flavors dont leave much. A bit of wheat thats about it, maybe a faint whisper of yeast.

Drink- Eh, could've been better in its prime but still awesome only 2nd BA from States to review.

Pours almost clear golden with large white and dense head that in one finger thickness lasts till the end of the glass with thick stripes of lacing. Aroma is yeasty spice, light fruit.

Taste is wheaty bitterness with touch of clove and medium-dry finish, rather long-lasting not too pleasant malty aftertaste with bits of spice. Mouthfeel is light-medium with quite high, but nevertheless pleasant carbonation.

Overall, although it looked good and aroma was rather pleasant, it lacked something in the taste department.

Projecting a bold display of wheat and pilsner malt, the sweetness in this fuller wheat ale gives a plump character to fruit esters while rounding out the rougher edges of natural spices for a creamy and silky session.

Medium gold, the cloudy ale pours with erruptive carbonation that nearly topples the weizen glass. Sturdy retention outlasts the beer underneath, sheeting with lace as the beer quickly trails.

Sweet malt and grain align on the nose for a heafty bread and dough scent that come together in a sugar cookie kind of way. Above all that is the balance of banana and clove that seems to favor the fruit over spice, ever so slightly. Additional citrus, pepper, vanilla and mint aromas round out the beer's appetizing but complex scent.

Its creamy sweetness is again like cookie dough with a confectioner's heavy hand. As the banana flavor layers upon the wheat and pilsner malts- the beer begins to prefer a sweeter balance. As spicy clove, freshly grated white pepper, herbal and minty hop bitterness all strive to counter act the sweet fruitiness, it stops shy of even-keel. Warming up a bit, the slight bubblegum and vanilla taste really rounds the beer into shape.

Medium bodied, again, the ale lays with a creamy weight onto the tongue despite its zesty carbonation that attempts to pull the sugars from the mouth. Firmly attached, the malts linger long into a semi-dry finish of pepper and mint.

The Gutmann Hefeweizen is a formidable one but it tilts toward the fruit and malt side and detracts from the aspect of drinkability to a slight degree. I can't help to think that the sweetness lumbers with the fruit and spice brightness; keeping those flavors slightly muted as well.

appearance: Nice cloudy with that fuel injection at the end of hearty goodness. Clouded amber screams German beauty, the only thing that could make this look better is if a beautiful buxom half naked tutonic woman was serving it . Fantastic head

smell: Rich banana fruitiness. Almost tropical. Ah and the hints of yeast

taste: Rich but not as good as it looks. I prefer others but it is type sufficient

mouthfeel: Not a bad mouthfeel but not the best. It was a bit over flat yet over edgy, a bit too much hops for my taste.

overall: Overall nice to look at, but like some good looking women when you get a taste you prefer another. Nice summer brew

Hmm, I disagree with the person below me that this beer can be found in nearly every drink shop in Berlin. I wish! It's definitely findable, but I can only think of a few places that have it in my neighborhood.

A: Almost perfect. Maybe I should really give it a 5. Beautiful radiant orangy yellow color with an even head. Very very cloudy. So much so that you can barely see the carbonation in action.

S: A bit complicated. Smoke, sandy banana yeast, and the alcohol in the background.

T: Not one of the sweeter Hefeweizens. Quite neutral in flavor with some bitterness. The back end is nice and creamy. On the heavy side.

M: Very smooth, with a particular, somewhat mellow sting.

D: Heavy, but nice.

500ml Bottle from Beers of Europe (£2.29):
Light body before settling slightly darker as a medium, golden amber colour with a cloudy body and a large, two-fingers sized head that is very thick looking and stays well as a creamy white colour.

Banana & citrus with some orange peel and coriander thrown in initially.Very lively on the nose with some yeast coming through along with some spice and cloves. There is some wheat, a touch of bubblegum and a little bit of bread.

Banana with some spice before quickly being followed by some bubblegum and citrus flavours. There was some clove and orange peel too and a little wheat and yeast to see things out with.

Smooth with a light medium body with strong carbonation and a light, easy to drink feel to the beer. The mouthfeel seemed a little thin and watered down in places but from the most part it came across okay. Fruity and quite sweet & refreshing.

An enjoyable hefeweizen and my first new one in a few months. Not one I knew much about going in but as always Bavaria comes out on top when it comes to hefeweizens. A pretty good offering & well worth a try.

From 2012: A lighter bodied hefeweizen, poured into hefe glass. Hazy golden color with creamy, fluffy head, light in the mouth, without tasting or feeling watery.Nice pleasant sweetness along with the usual hefe flavors. A well done weizen from Gutmann.

500ml bottle, purchased at a local beershop

A- Almost golden with some orange hints, much less cloudy than the vast majority of hefeweizens. Medium and perfectly white creamy head, good retention

S- Weak to be honest. Yeast and maybe a hint of clove

T- Not the standard hefeweizen for sure. The wheat malts are hardly perceptible and hence the beer has a very light feel, but not an empty light feel: there's banana, some clove and a suprising but fine fruity (apple, maybe cherry) taste. Hops are gentle but bring a fresh feel to the flavours

M- A light body. Still, an awesomely fresh feel, perfect carbonation to give life without being overpowering and as smooth as you could ask

D- Awesome drinkability, maybe the freshest feel i ever found in a beer. One of the top examples of the high drinkability that you can trust to find in bavarian beers

If i had it on a blind tasting i would for sure have said that this is a Kristalweizen, but appareantly this is not filtered. A suprising but very good hefeweizen
