Cherry red color. It has two fingers of beige foam, quite compact.
Fruity smell, but not too exaggerated. Lightly sugary, and red fruit.
The taste is more or less on the same notes, with a hint of spiciness, orange peel.
Malty aftertaste, with fruity notes.
Drinkable.

Strong head, beige.
The aroma of sweet, malty, roasted plum, raspberry and a minimum of alcohol.
The taste is slightly bitter, like aroma feel prunes, fried. After heating the bitterness is stronger, as well as alcohol. This is a minus, because it destroys the pleasure of tasting. At the end it's just alcohol, too bad.

Pretty much like the description says. Poured with a fine foamy frothy very light tan head that lasts a bit and lots of lace. Color is a clear chestnut. Aroma is very mild with ripe dark fruits, malt, a tiny bit roasty, Flavor's the same but sweetness comes out more. Body's a touch on the thin side. Carbonation's ok. Finish is like flavor and of medium lenght. Ok beer, nothing too special. Booze doesnt' come out too strong. Too strong for a session.

Even with a pretty aggressive pour into a goblet, the head was on the small side. It almost completely dissipated after a minute or so; the body is a nice dark reddish amber. Pleasant smell of malt, sugar, plums, and some tang. The sweet malt is again present in the taste, along with the sugars, but the esters take a back seat to bitterness and alcohol. Decent feel. Pretty typical candi-sugared Belgian.

Beer tasting session with RvDoorn

A: Amber color with a similar head that dissapears fast.

S: First thing that came to my mind was mint/eucalyptus. Hops and red fruits. Some citrus terpenes.

T: A more fruity variety of Leffe Dubbel. No mint taste as suggested by the smell.

M: Medium carbonation and a nice smooth drink. Slightly bitter aftertaste

D: Very drinkable, but nothing original here. Leffe association stays up.

This was the fourth beer of my beer drinking session last evening with BA member PapaEugene. Poured into an Urthel glass. The beers pours a dark, red-brown color with a very small ruby-colored head that disappears fast.

The scent like spicy herbs, hops and some hints of red fruits

The taste is sweet caramel, again some red fruits, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. The alcohol taste was too strong. Almost like the brewers added pure ethanol just before bottling.

The mouthfeel is light and smooth. Medium low carbonation.

Overall a nice beer, it reminds me a bit of Leffe brune, only more spicy and a more bitter aftertaste. Maybe I will have it again in the future, but only if nothing better is available...

Fruity in the nose rather strange that recalls both the grape and black raspberry subtle. The palate is spicy and pungent as the Charles V. Golden Blonde, it also tasted malts and roasted orange peel, but the mouth is unfortunately below the predictions olfactory flavorings.

Bottle Inspection: Places to notch, but not notched. Date given 27/04/07 (sampled 03/02/07). 8.5% abv.

Aroma: Mild port note. Perfumed aspect with what basically were very close to Christmas spices.

Appearance: Deep red/amber glass held a thin cover that dropped to a collar. Good clarity.

Flavor: Almost a tripel in profile. The alcohol is there but subdued. Some caramelized sugary malt and red wine notes. Very unusual

Mouthfeel: Firm carbonation, thin body

Overall Impression: Enjoyable, in a red wine / port kind of way.

A kind gift from Mr. Bierschenker (Thanks Tim!)

Keizer Karel onsale at my local liqorstore, together with it's blond buddy, for 0.5 euro per 33 cl bottle. That's cheap for strong ale :).
I hope it's worth it.

Look is reddish brown, with creamy full head
Smell is bready and malty, for a dark ale. Also a bit of fruits, but not much from the orange peel that's announced on the label.
Taste is bittersweet and also roasted sugar, with a spicy bite.
Finish is a bit dry.

This beer is ok, but not so special. Lets say: in this style there are so many fine examples of brewing, I'm afraid this particular Keizer is in over his head.

It looks very nice, a nice dark red-brown collor with a beige head. Aroma of candy sugar and plums, with a vinous touch. Taste of plums, malts and coffee, again with a vinous accent. Not much in the aftertaste. Very decent beer.

this new product from haacht includes orange peel and ascorbic acid in its ingredients.

Pours a very deep red with a small tan head...nose is very malty at first, then notes of flowery citrus odors come out.

taste is initially bitter and malty, with a hint of the citrusy character, but then turns very bitter, Not sure which hop can produce this but it is quite intense. . it finishes mildly bitter.

further into the bottle it remains a fairly bitter, biting beer. I pick up some spicy notes which may be the orange peel as well. Belgian amber ale (not a BA-offered style for beer) is not my favorite, but this is very decent. I am somewhat puzzled by use of ascorbic acid in the beer.
