Pours a clear yellow with fine head.

Smell is bready and floral with hints of sweetness and rye.

Taste is clean and bready with a nice biscuity base and a floral bitterness. Notes of butterscotch and citrus. Very drinkable and crisp.

Mouthfeel is thin to medium, well carbonated.

Overall, a very nice lager, clean and crisp and very thirst-quenching.

This is a seriously malty beer. Since I've read in Papazian, et al, that Dortmunder lies somewhere in between a Pilsener and a Helles with regards to malt flavor, I was absolutely bubbling at the thought of how luscious my first Helles would be.

Well, after trying just one authenic Munich Helles (Hacker-Pschorr Edelhell), I can say that DAB has it beat in the malt profile.

This is a really good beer, and has a lot of serious quaffing potential. I would classify it as an "uber mensh" lawnmower beer to be consumed in a well-appointed beer garden of your choice.

Unfortunately, due to its hop/malt balance and white/green/gold/red packaging, this beer bears an uncanny resemblance to Clausthaler N/A, which is a serious buzzkill.

500 ml can into lager glass, canned on 11/2/2016. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy medium golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, light honey, herbal, pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance of pale malt and earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, light honey, herbal, pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/grassy/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, light honey, herbal, pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great robustness and balance of pale malt and earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with no yeast notes present. Light-moderate dryness from lingering bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and light-moderate body; with a very smooth, crisp, and moderately grainy/bready/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a great Dortmunder! All around great robustness and balance of pale malt and earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink. A really enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example. Perfectly balanced.

A tasty brew without strong negatives. I first tried DAB 30 yrs ago when I worked in a deli with a German man who sung its praises. I liked it then and this is a really good version in a 500ml can. It tastes like a German beer, well balanced between hops and malt.

L: Pours brilliant gold under a 2” long lasting white foam collar that grips the side of the glass.
S: Big bread aromas, medium low noble hops, lightly sweet grain, very faint sulfur.
T: Drinks smooth and crisp with a balance between malt and hops that produces spicy bread flavors. No fruit or movie popcorn butter flavors, but has a slight mineral character that is not overbearing and helps emphasize the hops.
F: Medium body and carbonation.
O: An easy to drink beer that is very balanced and smooth with a firm malt body.

A pleasant beer to have with a cheese sandwich for lunch.
Held to the sunlight, I got an above average show. Aromas are mostly malt and Tastes are typical to style. In the mouth, it could use more interest other than a few lingering bubbles. But Overall, a pleasant mid-day beer.

Pours clear with a nice head which quickly disappears.

Smell is laid back, doesn't give much away.

When tasting it I was hit with a decent amount of carbonation and an interesting aftertaste. Reminded me very much of a lager.

Overall an easy beer to drink, however it doesn't leave much to the imagination.

DAB Export. 500 ml can. 5% alc. Lager. Brewed by Dortmunder Actien Brauerei. Decent white head. The beer is golden coloured. There is not much aroma. Very faint grain smell. In other words, it smells like beer. The taste is grain, mild malted barley, and a pleasant slight hop bitterness that is most noticeable at the back of tongue. The beer is light to medium bodied. The finish is dry. This is my first time trying this beer.

500mL export can poured into a HB München mini dimpled mug.

L: Golden yellow with one finger head that stays for a little bit. Little lacing.
S: Standard lager yeast smell with a bit of sweetness.
T: Crisp and clean with crackery malt and slightly sweet malts, finishing with a slightly hop forward taste and breadiness. Good balance between malt and hops. Overall a little sweet.
F: Light to medium bodied with decent carbonation. Feels somewhat creamy but still crisp.

O: This is quite a good German export beer for the price. At $3.99 for 4x500mL cans, you can't really beat this one. Much better than all other AALs. Definition of an average Dortmunder.

Canned on 6/7/18. 16.9oz can poured into a tulip. Pours golden with great clarity and transparency with bubbles racing upwards; fluffy eggshell white head that falls leaving nice retention and sticky lacing. The aromas have some hints of corn and barley. Some hints of caramel. Some toast and grains. Malts are there. It basically smells like your typical lager. The flavors follow the nose. More corn, caramel and grains. Mild hints of citrus. Malts do their thing. Low bitterness. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is nice. It's on the lighter side of medium-bodied with moderate to active carbonation. It's fluffy, smooth and easy to drink.

This is a solid lager. It's not flashy, but it's not supposed to be. Maybe it's not the best lager ever, but it's still nice and enjoyable. Not bad at all.

Brilliant golden-straw in color, topped with a shock white head. Excellent lacing.

Nose is neutral, with malt accented by grassy hops. Perhaps other cereal grains used as adjuncts? Semi-sour...

On the first sip the aromatics from the nose are identical inasmuch as tasting notes go: Slightly tangy-sour, but with a short, sharp (Noble?) hop bitterness which is all too fleeting for my liking. Seems grainy... sort of uninspired?

Aftertaste is not unpleasant, just a basic malt sweetness. Body is not thin, but not quite medium-full for a lager. Carbonation is proper for the style, and it is very easy to drink.

For the style this is very average overall, not far off from what I remember it being back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. To it’s credit it’s not at all expensive for an import - even cheaper than Bitburger!

I'm likin' the Dortmunders a lot, and this is a good example. Much more noticeable malt flavor than a pale American lager, just a little more taste of German hops. Very drinkable, but too tempting to slam one down, especially after an evening spent cooking chile pork stew for the homebrew club picnic!

Appearance: It pours a clear golden color with a bright white head about a finger thick but it does leave good lacing behind.

Aroma: Grainy, biscuity, pale malts give off a slight bit of honey notes. Faint pear, with grassy bits.

Taste: Crisp at the start but it smooths out with a buttery finish. Pear, grassy, honey, a wisp of apple.

Notes: It's drinkable it could use a bit more crispness but other than that it's tasty. Cheers.
