Purchased at Fairprice Extra in Singapore and drunk a few days later beside the hotel pool.

L: Inky black with a thin rim of cream-coloured head. No carbonation can be seen.

N: Coffee liqueur, mud, fresh soil, soy sauce.

T: Sweet dark malt, creamy coffee, tangy caramel, whisky notes, sweat, old cough medicine. It all comes together, though, and must be synergistic because it tastes a lot better than I just made it sound. Finishes sweet and a little thin.

M: Smooth and a little towards the flat and thin side. Carbonation and carbonic prickle is very low.

O: The weird combination of flavours comes together well but the sweet and slightly thin end mark it down a little.

Cheers!

Today is H, 14 Mai 2020 & I am in deep isolation during the COVID-19 crisis, giving me ample time to clear out my backlog. This one will CANtinue a few days of imports for The CANQuest (tm). This one came to me from local, in-person trader @tone77 following a trip of his.

From the CAN: "Archipelago Brewery Company ABC Stout"; "Established 1931"; "Premium Quality"; "Brewed to stringent international quality standards using only the finest imported roasted malt, hops and yeast, giving you the strength and goodness to revitalize."; "ABC Extra Stout has won championship medals in London, Paris, Madrid, Lisbon and Geneva."; "Brewed and canned by Asia Pacific Brewery (Lanka) Ltd. under license from Asia Pacific Breweries Limited".

I Crack!ed open the vent on this last overseas CAN from @tone77 & beCAN a slow, steady C-Line Glug as it evinced a pseudo-cascade. The formation of two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, deep-brown head with great retention was astounding! My mouth was agape at its depth of color. Color was soot Black/Opaque (SRM = 44), allowing ZERO light penetration. 8=O Nose was very roasty with notes of coffee; Baker's chocolate; dried, dark fruit like raisins and prunes; cherrywood smokiness & Maduro cigars (unsmoked). 8=O Mouthfeel was medium, but it lacked Ooomph!, especially at this relatively high ABV. It should have had a fuller presence. The taste was CANtastic with a very rich, smoky chocolatiness along with dark fruits and coffee. This was actually rather decadent & MUCH higher than my expectations! I saw that a number of previous reviewers had been served this in-flight. 8=O This would be a great beer to have while trapped in the dreaded middle seat in the middle of three aisles! If you have never had the pleasure, then lucky you. This would be a knockout right before a long in-flight nap. Finish was semi-dry with no indication of its indicated 8.8% ABV. 8=O I am being lulled to sleep even now. YMMV.

8% alcohol
Look can be appealing depending on how it's served.
Smells of alcohol immediately almost like liquor, brown sugar, brunt sugar, charred caramel.
Tastes earthy, grassy, green and somewhat botanical, brunt coffee, charred wood, rum, raisins.
Feels a bit lighter than other stouts I've had. Insubstantial, lacking, somewhat week presence.

If you absolutely must have a stout, this will do. But this need more development before it can be a serious contender.
It cost $1.50 - $1.70 USD/bottle in Cambodia. ABV is 8% so there's that.

Served on a long haul Singapore airlines flight from the US to Singapore.
A - opaque black with a nice tan head, with very minimal retention, likely an effect of being served in a plastic cup. Nonetheless, the beer checks all appearance characteristics that are to be expected from an extra stout.
S- roasted malt that brings forth a coffee aroma, and toasted bready notes.
T- very prominent cappuccino flavors on the palate. A nice touch of lactose-like sweetness further accentuates the flavors of milk chocolate and coffee. Very fulfilling.
M- medium and silky. Very good.
O- definitely one of the best options offered on a flight anywhere. Highly recommended.

ABC stout served from a can into a plastic glass on Singapore airlines flight from Europe to the US. A nice alternative to the typical bland offerings. Very dark appearance with a fairly full body.

Had to go to Singapore to get this beer.
(Don't worry, I didn't just go for the beer.)
Singapore is fascinating.... but hotter than hell.
Stout does not quench like many other styles we know. But this went OK with the Chinese-based food I had... but not much how.

This was on the "!001" list and the only other accompaniment from Singapore was Tiger lager.
MJ's 1999 "Guide gave it 2.5 of 4 stars and called it "creamy, roast, medium-dry."

Poured from a 33cL can into a glass.

Pours black and viscous with nice head. It smells malty and sweet.
It tastes weird, like black licorice, quite bitter. Very strong and bitter. Kinda of dry. This is intense, and I don't think I can finish it. Hmmm

323ml Can in Chinatown, Singapore (SGD$3.5):
Dark brown to black with a creamy looking, tan brown, 0.5cm head that turns creamy lacing.

Roasted malts and some barely with some alcohol & sweetness to the beer with some darker fruits and a bit of grain too. Chocolate & some spice at the end.

Sweet with roasted barely and darker, more rich malts. There is a little coffee and some cocoa with a strong alcohol kick. A semi-bitter finish but the sweetness dominates.

Medium bodied and quite sweet with some alcohol& a bittersweet finish with a creamy feel and relatively light carbonation.

A pretty average foreign stout that was mainly a sweet and strong tasting one with a few subtle fruit and chocolate notes in the background but not enough for my liking if I'm honest. It was certainly a drinkable beer but there are definitely more than a few beer foreign export stouts to be found out there.

A: Pours a dark brown color with a good thick tan head that fades slowly to good lacing.

S: Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate and dark fruit.

T: Taste of roasted malt, chocolate, with some caramel and dark fruit in the background. Mild bitterness and a clean finish.

F: Full body, rich and creamy with a nice balance.

O: Good drinkable beer to relax with. Worth a try.
