This beer won a price for best Austrian IPA this year and I guess it deserves it, though I would like to mention that there are not many beers of this style available in Austria. I bought it at the brewery and I had a couple of them the last months.

Not clear not murky it is a lighter amber color of the body that shows some medium bubbled carbonation. Foam is almost white, it is fluffy, fine, really stable and leaves lacing

Fruity American hops of the pine, pineapple and honey melon aroma.

Taste also dominated by Pine and further fruity hops but there is also some sweetness from the malt that keeps the balance with the bitterness that only dominates towards the end when beer gets dry. Bitterness lingers for a while.

Body is medium and smoothly carbonated

This is an above average American IPA that represents the style pretty well. In Austria you can now get your American hop treat from a local producer at a fair price. Enjoy!

Brewed by Egerer, Licensed by Rieder. From the can, it pours a hazy amber with a lovely head. Some citrus in the nose, along with a lot of malt. More malty than hoppy in the mouth. An honest effort, but not a true IPA to me. Second can came off better than the first, so adjusted it a bit.

Not sure how it was entered as an AIPA as it definitely tastes more like the old world model. Solid malt backbone with enough hop action to keep it where it should be.

Rieder poured a hazy, pale amber, probably around a 10 on the SRM scale. A decent head foamed up on the pour, and it has some staying power. The haze is somewhat surprising, and not entirely fitting for the style.

It is clear from both the smell and flavors present that this is an American style IPA. In fact, it does appear to be classified that way in several sources, including on BeerAdvocate. There is a prominent resinous smell with the hops, and a decent amount of malt on the nose. There is a strong malt backbone on the flavor; the swallow is a competition between hop bitterness and malt sweetness. I'm positive this beer wasn't barrel-aged, but I feel like I get some oak notes, particularly vanilla. These come and go, though- they aren't present on every sip.

Rieder IPA is one of my favorite beers from this calendar. Even though I constantly drink American IPAs, it is interesting to see another country take on this style. I've had better IPAs in the states, but I've certainly had worse.

Served in a pint glass right from the can.

Appearance: cloudy Amber color with a very thick off-white head rising about one finger's length from the body. Stays up for a bit with super sticky lacing. Bubbles to the body are Medoum at best but brew looks pretty damn good.

Smell: light hops with lemon skin.

Taste: Tasty hops and smooth floralness. Malts aren't super heavy which might make this one of the better "beginner" IPAs to have.

Mouth: Medium to heavy carbonation but drops a bit after you let it sit in the glass. Somewhat sticky but smooth.

Overall: Good brew, definitely put a smile on my face. Hopefully all of you can have the luck of finding one. Always in a glass...Salud!

this is a wonderfully different take on an ipa, and a lovely cultural fusion of brewing styles and ingredients. big thanks to drlovemd87 for this one, not sure i would have tried an austrian brewed ipa anytime soon. the color on this is glorious, glowing somewhere between beet red and honey orange, its alive and fiery looking, with a soft and subtle inch of permanent bone white head. it smells like german grains, well toasted, and american hops, dripping with alpha acids. definitely not what i expect when these central european breweries take on such styles, its so big, so true to what we love about ipa, but with a well crafted european twist, in this case the grain bill. the flavor is awesome too, a great journey that starts with medium bodied caramel grains, and almost like a dry irish red in impresion, but moving quickly into a just bitter enough lush plant-like hop profile, vegetal and fresh, not citrusy at all, but with a mild fruity note. its a large beer in feel, fuller bodied but carbonated well enough with those tiny little bubbles that never relax. its one of the more robust and better constructed non-american india pale ales ive had, and if it were available here i think people would get real pumped on it. this is exceptional, a nice surprise, and a beer i cannot recommend highly enough!
