500ml swing-top bottle. A 'Dunkle Weisse' [sic], as per the label.
This beer pours a cloudy, dark golden amber hue, with two fingers of foamy and bubbly ecru head, which leaves some pervasive spotty islet and conversely splotch-tastic lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.
It smells of banana esters and savoury cloves, uber alles, some lesser, but not in outright quality, sweet grainy, wheaty malt. The taste is quite sweet, the mushed ripe banana and intense, light roasted wheat malt really leading off with a flourish, with some mixed spice and citrus notes scrounging for the scraps.
The carbonation is quite sedate, the body a decent medium weight, and generally smooth in the face of a mild wheaty astringency. It finishes on a surprising anti-sweet bent, the grain leveling off, as does the fruit and spice, letting the noble hops have their very brief moment in the sun.
A fairly agreeable, yet strangely middling dunkel - too sweet up front, and lacking at least a small nod in terms of an increased ABV over its lighter-coloured sibling. After the one, I think my tongue scraper would have to be ready at the standby.

500 mL bottle,
A: Pours a dark brown with a long-lasting white head, no real lace.
S: Heavy dark malt, caramel, hint of sulfur.
T: Lots of caramel malt, dark bread, just a hint of raisins, classic dunkel flavours.
M: Medium-bodied, thins out at the end, but solid overall.
D: Another well made brew from Rieder. Love dunkel lagers and this is an additional one to add to the repetoire.
