Kind of a light colored Amber. Smells like caramel and hops. Lightly sweet, caramel, malt, hoppy. Nice carbonation but light mouthfeel. Pretty decent beer.

Very drinkable amber lager with very little carbonation making it very smooth; has your typical amber darker but transparent color with a beige head; smells of caramel, grain with a sweetness but needs more malt, grain and slight piney smell; the taste is that of a typical amber but with well balanced hops that balance out the sweetness, and malt, maybe could use a little more malt; crisp and hoppy with a sweet beginning and slightly toasty end. Overall a good beer that's very drinkable but not the greatest coming from a native South Carolinian.

From a tap at the Blossom restaurant in Charleston, SC. Pours slightly haze amber with a thin tan head. Aroma of caramel. Sweet initial malt flavors, smooth and balanced malt to hops. Only lightly carbonated and good but average body.

Not bad. Tastes more like a Marzen than A Red/Amber Ale. Pours an almost clear amber color with a medium size off-white head. Good retention and lacing. Aroma is malty with a finishing bitterness. Flavor is more of the same. The malt is not sweet like a typical Amber/Red Ale with caramel malt. he bitterness is subtle, reminding me of German hops. Mouthfeel is crisp and slightly bitter. Overall not a bad beer but there are many better representatives of the style.

Palmetto Brewing Company - Palmetto Amber. 5.5% ABV. 12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Code 140616 on bottle. (Reviewed 10/16/16).

Look: Dark amber/crimson body with a thin white head.

Smell: Sweet caramel, vanilla, and spices.

Feel: Medium bodied, slightly creamy and carbonated.

Taste: Cinnamon, malty bread, caramel, vanilla, and other spices. Has a somewhat sweet cream flavor within.

Overall: Not bad at all. A friend of mine brought two 6 packs of Palmetto beer back from vacation, and remain in his fridge untouched. This was the only one I had so far. Surprisingly tasty, with some nice flavors and aromas I didn't expect.

Marvelously malty and with enough citrusy hops to take the edge off of its sweetness, the American amber ale of Palmetto Brewing is a comforting ale that's built for long conversation with good company, American pizza, burgers and dogs. With this, the Americanized red ale is an all-purpose taste.

Appearing on the reddish side of amber, hints of brown and bronze carry threads of bolder color. Its frothy off-white cap blankets the nose with rich malt sweetness seeming of caramel, toffee, toast, roasting peanut and the light baking sear of pie crust. Much of the same rolls onto the tongue as the sweet malty taste is savory of toast, nuttiness and caramelized sweetness.

With the beer's malting influence remaining moderately strong, sweet and savory, the pacific northwest hops won't be denied. A balance of orange peel, grapefruit and fine grassiness offers a herbal and citrusy counterpoint to the rolling sweetness. Trailing with a growing bitterness, a toasted peppercorn finish comes with a firm earthy brightness of mulled pine needle and spicy grassiness.

Medium-bodied from start to finish, the lingering sweetness keeps the session savory and focused on the sweetness. While trending mildly toasty-dry, the hops, alcohol and sharpening grains balance enough of the sweetness to allow a drinkable, refreshing and crisp taste, albeit malty.

From the bottle, it pours a clear amber with a moderate head. Lacing as you enjoy the beer. A bit of malt tickles the nose. A bit of malt with a mild bite tickles the tongue. Pleasant!

Amber in color, foamy white head. Nutty malt aroma. Slightly sweet taste. Malt dominated, minimal hop flavor. Thin to medium bodied.

Poured into a snifter.

2.75 A: Mildly hazed orange amber color. Less than one finger of frothy beige head. Retention is below average and just a few wisps of lacing are left.

3.0 S: Sweet caramel and graininess. Not quite clean as there's some breadiness in there. Light mineral component. It's okay, but it needs more malt in there.

3.25 T: Like the nose, lots of caramel and graininess. Bready base with hints of mineral. Mild bitterness. Grassy hops. Better than the taste, but still mediocre.

3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lightly creamy and smooth.

3.25 D: It's okay, but nothing I would pick up again.

Too watery and not enough malt sweetness to compensate for the bitterness from the red malts and the added hops.

I'm a firm believer that this style needs the right water source to soften the rough edges and make it a beer for the masses

Caramel, sweet grain malt and a wisp of bittering hops. Pretty standard amber. Not much flavor, easy drinking. Lower carbonation drives the drinkability.

This delivers a nice Irish Red like flavor of kilned grains, nutty pecan, roasted barley and toasted bread. I get a bit of caramel malt and a very low bitterness. This is how I like my amber ales though it has a very light thin feel.

12 oz bottle into a snifter.
This is a solid, but quite average and unremarkable amber ale, It does lean a tiny bit towards the hoppier and less sweet side of the amber ale.spectrum. Even the appearance is average in terms of color, head, and clarity.
