Notes: The robust full-bodied flavor comes from the dark roasted malts and is accented with a coffee espresso roast by our friends and neighbors Charleston Coffee Roasters.

What's up with the pepper! Didn't expect it based on the bar's write up... But if you're ok with a spicy / peppery porter, then you will love this one.

Came in a standard pint a deep dark cola color with a thin but well sustained deep beige head atop. The espresso is noticeable in the nose but not real big, some chocolate a and sugary caramel in there as well.Caramel and milder espresso roast flavors upfront on the palate,a little brown sugar in the finish.I'ts a quaffable coffee infused porter although not big in the espresso.Enjoyable.

I am sampling a cellar temp bottle poured into a snifter. A gift from my cousin Nicole and Aunt Dolly in Charleston. Thanks!
The beer pours a deep cola brown with fluffy beige head of 3 cm foaming up on the gentle pour and leaving windowpane lattice as it fades to a sturdy surface layer.
Aroma is a big hit of roasted coffee, dry almost burnt notes and a bit of chocolate buried behind the coffee. Generally roasted and dry on the nose.
First sip reveals an average body with with tingly carbonation that pecks across my palate on each sip.
Flavor is as the nose advertises with a bit of dark chocolate, high cocoa notes that are barely sweet. this is followed by roasted malt and coffee notes that linger after each sip. No hints of alcohol and the hops dont show through either. This is a dry malty brew that coffee lovers would love.
I find it enjoyable this evening after a long day at the beach. Worth a shot if you dig coffee beers and are in the South.

Pours a deep red brown almost mahogany color. Head is only thumb sized even from aggressive pour

Aroma is light roasted malts light coco notes with weak coffee notes also.

Taste is pretty much like the nose, roasted notes are better with some descent coffee notes. Light coco before the hops kick in for a lightly bitter finish. Overall not bad favorable enough easy drinking porter wouldn't replace my go to porter but would have if I was out somewhere.

Mouthfeel is medium with lightly peppy carbonation that shows up in the finish.

Overall not bad actually better then I thought it would be considering other brews from Palmetto I have had.

@ The Griffon

Looks pretty close to pitch black in color, topped by an off-white head that reduces to a thin ring. This one is all about the coffee, though it’s not going to jump out of the glass and slap you around. Nice deep black, oily espresso bean aroma. Similarly “beany” in flavor with an easy going sweetness and a bit of chocolaty malt. Medium bodied. Very simple in execution, but the coffee implementation is so well done it’s hard to resist ordering another glass. Should’ve grabbed a couple bottles to take home with me.

Appearance: Dark brown color with a nice mocha cap that delivers some lace

Smell: Fresh brewed coffee galore

Taste: Loads of coffee flavor both up front and after the swallow; roasty malt flavors underneath

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: This is one of those coffee beers that tastes like coffee rather than a beer with coffee influences; nice job!

12 ounce bottle - $1.69 at Total Wine & More in Greenville, South Carolina.

Appearance: Pours a very dark but clear brown body capped with a tan-hued head.

Smell: Restrained coffee-hinting roastiness with a lil' darkened grain and a lil' dark chocolate.

Taste: A gentle malty roastiness with a taste of sweetened coffee and chocolate for a slight mocha kick. Small hint of dark fruitiness. Minimal hop character and balancing bitterness. Semi-dry finish, still hinting of roasty coffee.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Not bad, just a fine, simple porter.

A well-crafted Porter. Purchased at Harris-Teeter Supermarket in Charleston SC. Pours a dense brown color into a pint glass from a 12 oz bottle. Big frothy light tan head with good retention. Filmy patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma is malty with some milk chocolate and coffee and cream. Taste is more of the same. A malty backbone with mild milk chocolate and light coffee (don't see where they got the expresso out of this). Mouthfeel is very good. Rich and creamy and smooth. Goes down like a session beer even though it is 6% abv. Very nice. One of the better offerings from Palmetto.

Very dark, poured out about one finger thick head that dissipated to just a thin film, very tight lacing on the glass.

This was one of the darkest richest coffee aromas I've ever had from any kind of coffee stout or porter. Really whets your appetite.

tastes just as strong of coffee, a slight acitidy in the finish. The coffee flavor is a bit overpowering.

This isn't too thick despite the dark color, a good malty sweetness and slight acidity cover any bitterness but it doesn't pucker your lips.

Once again the coffee flavor is maybe too much and covers up the other characteristics of the beer, but this is a pretty good version and very unique.

A - Pours with one finger of light brown foam on top of a black body with clear, amber highlights showing through. The head settles rapidly and leaves light lace.

S - Dark sugary notes of molasses and brown sugar with some smoky coffee notes in the background.

T - Dry, toasted malt up front with some molasses. Roasty notes come out in the middle with chicory and dark chocolate. Some more molasses, licorice, and smoky coffee in the finish.

M - Medium body, moderate carbonation, and a dry finish.

D - There is something about the combination of dark, dry malt and coffee that isn't working here. It lacks balance and just comes across as burnt bread. Not worthwhile.

Pours a dirty dark brown color with a minimal beige head that settles into a light ring. 3.5

The aroma is toasted pumpernickel and cold roast coffee. Real nice coffee aroma. Bitter chocolate notes. There is a bit of a lemony twang that you find in traditional porters. 4.25

The malt has a nice roast flavor but its a bit thin. The coffee flavor is quite good, deep roast. Again, there is that lemony twang found in porters. 4

The feel is thin, a bit watery for a porter. Soft carbonation. Light roast bitterness throughout the palate. 3.25

A very enjoyable coffee porter. It needs more body to smooth out the feel and round out the flavor profile. 3.85

A: The beer is very dark amber in color and poured with a thin tan head that quickly faded away and left a ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: There are moderate aromas of dark, roasted coffee beans in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the coffee flavor takes center stage and is moderately strong but only has a hint of associated bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied but slightly watery on the palate and has a light to moderate amount of carbonation. The finish has a bit of dryness.
D: It's very easy to drink a few of these because the beer is neither very filling nor has an overpowering coffee taste. I could easily have a few of these in one night.

12oz. Pretty close to black, just a ring of light fan head.

Aroma, strong coffee and roast malt. A little cocoa, peat.

Taste, Strong dry roast, roast malt. Pretty dry, cocoa coffee finish. Pretty straight forward.

Carbonation maybe a little high. Lighter mid body. Drinks easy enough.
Not bad, just need to like coffee, kind of a one trick pony.
