Just like other GLBC beers this recipe has changed. It used to be so bitter it was barely drinkable, now the hops are almost floral and very, very smooth. I don't mind the change but how can the recipe change so much and still keep the same name on the bottle? I get that Great Lakes is trying to appeal to a larger mass audience but it disturbs me how much some of their beers have changed.

I live in Northern KY and Great Lakes Commodore Perry is available just about everywhere. Given that it's so easy to obtain, it is also unfortunately far too easy to take this beer for granted. It ALWAYS satisfies. Look, smell, taste, feel are always sturdy. A total go-to beer and then some. And if that wasn't enough, a six pack is available just about everywhere in Greater Cincy for around $10. If there is a Top 10 'bang for your buck' beer list somewhere, Commodore Perry one has to be #1. And yes, I was between my first and second C.P. today when I wrote this. Cheers!!

Hands down one of the best IPAs I have ever had. While in recent years breweries have been striving to produce the most bitter and bombastic hop-bombs on the market, this IPA remains wonderfully drinkable with a fruity body and pleasant aftertaste. Also has more malt presence compared to other IPAs. Would definitely buy again.

Has a nice color to it, not quiet pale, but almost a darker gold color. It has a bitter taste at the first sip. Good amount of carbonation. Overall, a beer that I wouldn’t mind purchasing again.

L: Golden with orange highlights, clear and bright, originally poured a large head though it fades, no lace
S: Toasty malt, lightly buttery, hops are sweet and fruity, lightly tropical (candied citrus)
T: Sweet grain up front, strong malt presence here, which I am personally a fan of. Hops repeat the candied citrus note I picked up on the aroma. Finishes with a lightly dry bitterness.
F: Smooth, higher end carbonation, very crisp. Body feels a bit heavier but its not a chore to drink since the flavors are right, though not exactly refreshing.
O: As a fan of well malted IPAs, especially English-style IPAs, I think this is a fantastic beer. I think hops and malt play into each other nicely here, and I think Greak Lakes did a superb job balancing the various aspects of the beer. Can see this being a mainstay for me for the near future.
