2018 vintage Carson Street deli. Really like this one a year of age on it mellow bourbon notes mild apricot sweetness some brown sugar and mild fruit hops. Still a bit boozy with traces of ethanol but easy enough to finish. Never heard or seen this stuff but way better than most high gravity barleywines.

Had on tap. More golden than normal barleywines, however the smell is spot on with caramel, roast malt, bourbon, and brown sugar reeling me in. The taste is the winner here though, with all of the aromas plus apricot, toffee, oak, and some earthy mushroom. Out there but rewarding. Feel is medium to light, but missing either the barley snarl or the cloying sweetness.

Got a 2018 bottle. Once I poured it into a glass, I knew I was in for a treat. It’s a beautiful golden amber color and has a subtle but distinctive bourbon aroma. A nice little head formed that lingered throughout. The taste is fantastic with a little bitterness that is nicely complimented with the sweeter bourbon notes.

From the growler via The Growler Stop in Newtown in a snifter. This
rather nice ale pours a chill hazed pale amber with a very nice head of
white foam that dissipates to a thick ring, thin pool, and shows some nice
light lacing. Nose of mild sweet bourbon, rich vanilla, mild oak, medium
astringent alcohol, caramel malts, and apricot notes with traces of toffee
and a touch of herbal hops. Flavors follow the nose with peach and apricot
mulled in bourbon with oak and vanilla making headway into a foray of
caramel and moderate bittering hops that are rounded out by warming
booze. Nice mouth feel; warming, smooth, lightly coating, medium light
carbonation, and a sweet bourbon finish that is warm and inviting.

Does it scream barley wine, by some points no, but it is an excellent
strong ale that is barrel aged and pretty solid. Worthy of a try
but more akin to some imperial helles style brews out there such as
some of the better ones from Eastern Block countries.

Cheers

Had a growler of this from Whole Foods. The sample I had of this tasted great but once I put the growler in the coal cellar it just got overly chilled and, despite taking multiple steps to recreate the magic, the thrill is gone.

Poured from a 2017 release bottle into the test glass.
A - light colored very clear backdrop. stead carbonation is on full display, an accumulation of foam coats the glass interior.
S - Very floral, forward, then hints of toffee, caramel and vanilla
T - Apricot jam, a thin thread of traditional barley wine flavors, vanilla, toffee, then the hops roll in with pepper, orange rime in the mix
M - A bit thin, not to slick, a medium body, starts a bit sweet, then wow does the bitterness run through, the barrel treatment rounded some of those edges, the linger is a mix of sweet and bitter
O - I may have had this too young, its not hot in alcohol, but i do feel a bit out of balance. The base beer seems less malt forward than the traditional style. That said I have another bottle and will revisit in some time. This has the frame of 120 minute with the kiss of Bourbon

Had this on tap at Ashley's Ann Arbor. Pours a light caramel color with a fast-falling white head. Aroma is still fairly hoppy with some oaky/vanilla showing.(Their website says that's what they wanted so I'll go with it.) Taste is sweet/caramel/oak and a pleasant balance of those with the residual balancing hoppiness. Overall a solid brew that challenged my preconceived notions of a barrel aged barleywine.

Picked up at release party. Pours almost clear with little head. Nose is bourbon. Taste is sweet barleywine tamed by bourbon. Overall a great barrel aged Barleywine. Glad we picked up our maximum that night
