Comes out brown, 1/2" lighter brown to off white head with good retention. Aroma was sweet, some not overly roasted chocolate malt, but nonetheless it is what it is.
A substantial amount of chocolate here, more like a stout or porter than a traditional doppel. Better for it. Lots of that cocoa. Smooth. Creamy and avoids dark fruit bitterness that seems to be a hallmark for style.
Was well above expectations.

L: Brilliant chestnut brown under a 1” finely bubbled clingy light tan foam cap.
S: Rich bread, kettle sugars, spice.
T: Malt driven rich and complex malty palate with grain, spice, hints of wine and a light hop bitter accent on the finish.
F: Full bodied with slightly below average carbonation.
O: An excellent doppelbock.

This beer is almost 4 years old. Got lost in the cellar.
Pours a murky medium brown with tones of copper and a lingering, dense, frothy head.
Aroma is rummy, with notes of sherry, raisins, and dates adding complexity. Caramel malt, toffee, and toasted nuts bring melanoidins to mind.
Flavor is compromised. There's a vinegar tartness that has overtaken the beer. The rich, toasted malt character remains, with a fairly dry finish. Getting beyond the tartness, notes of plums, dates, and figs are pleasant.
Body is fairly full, with modest carbonation and noted alcohol warmth.
Good beer, minus the vinegar notes. Moral of the story...Didn't age well. My score will be the current average, to avoid skewing the average because of the beer's age.
