Pours a slightly cloudy, dark golden orange color with apricot edges and a one finger white foam head that quickly settles into a lasting collar. Sporadic spotty lacing left behind.

Floral hop aroma with a decent balance of earthy and sweet citrus notes countered by a sweet malt backbone. Slightly resinous with grassy pine needle notes followed by citrus peel, caramel malt, toffee and biscuit. Slight tropical presence with grapefruit, pineapple and orange peel but the malt presence is a bit strong for my liking, taking away from the floral hop bouquet and citrus/tropical fruit notes.

Medium bodied with prominent earthy bitterness up front that lingers over the sweeter notes and malt backbone into a dry finish. Dry and resinous with grassy pine needle and spruce tip flavors countered by subtle citrus and sweet malt backbone. The citrus/tropical fruit character from the nose is missing here but there is some caramel sweetness as well as some toffee, hazelnut and biscuit. The high ABV is well masked making this beer easy to drink, but the malt flavors are a bit too prominent for me. Some nice hop flavor up front but it falls off mid-palate with too much malt sweetness for the style.

Had on tap. Pours clear, dark gold in color with 1/2 inch head. Taste is lemon, biscuit, and deep grapefruity hops. Super hoppy and bitter. Not my favorite IPA, but worth a try.

Quick review. Tried & tried to like this DIPA but it's just not gonna happen. The nose is great, tons of grapefruit & citrus to spare. The issue I have is with the lingering & potent malt-sweet quality that just dominates the palate, moreso than any other DIPA that I've tried. I mean, objectively it is a well crafted & dense take on the style, just not for me.

Poured into a Delirium snifter on 3/10/13

Dark orange and honey hues; honey depth, too. One finger head dissipates quickly to a layer of tiny bubbles and thicker collar retention. Droopy lace.

Slick hop oil and light booze aromas. Lots of grapefruit, some tangerine and lemon. Hints of pine and a slight herbal nip. Soapy orange. Biscuit and cracker malts.

The taste is more of an herbal/pine combo with too much booze in the middle. Bitterness is moderately high and would be pretty much spot on if it weren't for all the booziness. Oily citrus tones move in after a spell; grapefruit and orange.

Medium full, slick feel. Carbonation is moderate and well proportioned. Still, it's too boozy.

Finally, Great Lakes takes a shake at a decent DIPA; too bad it's upper mid-tier at best.

This is a pain the butt. I should have to write reviews if I dont feel like I want to. I believe that we are all responsible adults on this site and the drop downs are more than enough and if we want to write a review we can
