GLBC is the cornerstone of Cleveland's rapidly growing beer community and one of the first places where I started getting really interested in craft beer. Great Lakes has a typical, not too fancy pub and restaurant as well as their beer cellar (during evening hours) for patrons to visit. The atmosphere is what you would expect from a larger craft brewery...decent sized main bar with a steady crowd of people from lunchtime through evening and a handsome dining room that serves guests some tasty options from their kitchen. During the warmer months in CLE, GLBC's patio attracts large crowds especially during Indians home games and during happy hour. Great Lakes beer selection is generally around 8-10 handles. These always include favorites such as Dortmunder Gold, Eliot Ness, Commodore Perry, and Edmund Fitzgerald plus there is a frequent rotation of seasonally made batches to fill in the rest of the tap selection. My recommendation for those who have had GLBC beers in bottles is to try any of the selections you have never seen before, as everything they make are pretty darn good. Service is always excellent. From the moment you arrive on the patio or the front hostess stand, service is always polite and with a smile. The bartenders pay close attention to your glass and ensure that you are always content while under their roof. Food includes standard pub fare including fish and chips, baked pretzels and a sausage and cheese platter. During the local harvest months, GLBC prides itself on using as much locally sourced ingredients as possible and even has a partnership with a nearby farm in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. If you are visiting and are planning on attending a Cleveland Indians or Cavs game, be sure to check out their Fatty Wagon which runs on straight vegetable oil. Roundtrip fare is $1 per person. Overall, Great Lakes continues to produce some of the finest beers around and is a great place to come visit.

Visited here on a Friday night while visiting a college buddy. Brewery is in a historic neighborhood that is definitely making a comeback with lots of restaurants and shops. You walk in the bar and it is an immediate throwback to a great, local neighborhood bar feel. The food menu was a cross between old pub favorites and newer, more modern dishes. I had a barbeque burger and was very pleased. Side salads were pretty awesome too. Options on the menu for appetizers looked good as well, but we did not have any. Service was prompt and thorough as well.

As for the beer, well it's Great Lakes. Great lagers (Dortmunder!) and pale ale (Burning River) are the staples, with their other flagships also not letting you down. I can't remember what exactly the seasonal was at the time, but they did have an experimental hop beer on which was also above average and showed off the hop very well. The brewery tour after dinner was solid, with tours of their (extremely) cramped packaging hall and a view of their immaculate brewhouse. Taste panel was happening and they even gave us a sneak taste of an upcoming Belgian Chocolate Stout collaboration.

Overall, the Great Lakes people are great people making great beer. The restaurant is will represented and the tour tells their story very well. This is a must visit spot if you are in Cleveland!

Cool physical building and cool decor. Terrible vibe. Kitschy tourist trap. Place smelled awful. Like rotted vegetable farts and okd seafood. Pretty raunch. Will never be back.

This is one of my favorite (if not favorite) breweries that distributes to many states. I am always impressed by the consistently high quality of their distributed beers and was SO excited to visit them in person on a trip through Cleveland. The brewery itself was a bit of a let down. They didn't have much on tap that I can't get in bottles several states away.

Very nice facility - the main bar is very classic, as well as historic. The overall feel is very pleasant, with a number of different rooms for dining. the staff was very attentive and helpful. The food was excellent, and the beer even better.

This place could use some updating. There is a way to keep the old school feel and still clean it up a bit. The food menu is just ok and the beer menu typically offers few brews that aren't readily available in bottle format. Not bad but there are better places to go.
