Pint on tap at the Lark in East Northport, N.Y.

Appearance: It's a dark ruby color with a minimal white head that is gone fast. Not as dark as most porters; held to the light it's kind of a clear reddish brown. My friend ordered an Avery brown ale and the waitress had to sniff our beers to tell them apart.

Aroma: I'm not surprised said waitress recognized my beer via sniff. It really smells like almond milk. Blindfolded, I would think it was a glass of almond milk right next to a porter or brown ale. The sweetness of the almond milk dominates, but there's also some roastiness and maybe a touch of (weakish) coffee in the nose. An attractive smell. Alcohol not noticeable.

Taste: Follows the nose. The beer has your typical porter roastiness and chocolatey notes, but the almond milk flavor is very forward. It gets a little less dominant as it warms, but it's definitely aptly named. You see a lot of "wacky flavor" beers out there that leave you thinking, "Why is this named that?" This isn't one of them. Almond milk all the way. It was good; would drink again. Sweet for a porter; could be a dessert beer, though I paired it with a veggie burger and pub fries.

Mouthfeel: Somewhat light of body for a porter. I wouldn't say watery, but definitely on the thin end of the spectrum for a dark beer.

Overall: It's 2014 and of course there's an almond milk beer. But, hey, it's decent. For a slightly high ABV beer, the alcohol isn't noticeable at all. If I were to have this again, it would probably be as a dessert, and it'd make a good one for sure.

On draft at Whole foods, into a tulip glass.

Thankfully I did not have the same experience as the first reviewer. I think there must have been something wrong with the keg.

Anyway, poured a pitch black, minimal head and little lacing. Smelled very good. Huge malt. Taste was a little disappointing, I was hoping to get some of the almond flavor. As a porter, it tasted ok, I was just going for more. Again, mostly malt with a hint of chocolate. As original post, it was a little thin, but definitely not watery. Mild carbonation.

Overall, a decent porter. Was hoping for something different with the almond milk.

Lasting beige head that leaves chunky strips of lace. The brew dark cherry brown where light passes along the edge. Hard to tell but it appears to be quite clear, particularly for the style.

The smell is primarily of burnt malts. There's a touch of sourness and vanilla. Lots of cream.

True to description, I taste substantial almond and milk. The swallow features some of the deeply roasted malts and even some hop bitterness. Thin bodied with an elevated carbonation. Complex enough to be interesting throughout.

Don’t. Do. It.  I had a small taster of this out of curiosity, and immediately regretted it.  Super thin and watery, it drinks more water than a porter.  Really nothing going on with the flavor except a hint of roasted malt, but the finish is really where it gets funky.  Nutty, milky, and sour.  The sourness reminds me of the tannic almond skin.  Thankfully I didn’t get an entire pint of this.  Avoid.
