12oz. can into oversized wine glass.

Look: Gold with some chill haze and a decent-sized head. Solid head retention.

Smell: Citrus and resin dominate, but bready malt and some tropical fruit are there in the background.

Taste: Unsurprisingly hop-forward, but nicely balanced by the malt backbone. Malt flavor is bready and there are tropical fruit notes with the hop bitterness in the finish. Some lingering bitterness.

Feel: It's highly carbonated, but the bubbles are small. So it goes down pretty easily. The 7% ABV will sneak up on you.

Overall: It tastes good and it's easy to drink. Only downside is it's stronger than it tastes.

From a fresh can to a beer glass. Beer colored and cloudy. Not much head or lacing. Howsomever, a strong orange nose blossom of hopsihopsigoodness and truthfulness. Buy this and enjoy

12 oz. can

Pours clear gold with a creamy frothy white foam head. Smells like big toasted biscuity caramel malts, honey, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, graham cracker, orange citrus, melon, grapefruit, pineapple, with woody floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like toasted biscuity bready caramel malts, honey, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, graham cracker, orange citrus, melons, grapefruit, pineapple, with bitter woody floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium-light bodied, slick with moderate carbonation. Overall a nice malty IPA.

From a six pack canned on the 21st of the previous month, so it's JUST under a month old.

The box didn't lie; there is plenty of malt here! The flavors are great but indistinguishable - grapefruit and pineapple are mashed up against a wall of anonymous bready malts. Carbonation is heady, and the body is heavy.

Pretty damn good.

I always find it curious that this Bay Area crafter had the moxie to claim its name as the most important event in U.S. history... at least as it relates to the somewhat smaller world of beer. But this is this brewery's most popular brew and I can see why.

While its Looks promise nothing special, its Smells are mostly floral, fruity and inviting. Its Tastes are largely the same, perhaps with a little more malt for emphasis. And frankly, Feel also is in at the same high level. Juicy. But what makes this IPA unusual is how well it goes with a spicy barbecue sauce.

All that said, we should not forget that it was not FDR that helped launch the craft beer movement. But it was Jimmy Carter 44 years later. And Carter did not require an Amendment to the Constitution (very very difficult in a country engaged in today's un-civil war), but Carter merely issued an Executive Order saying that it was OK for households to brew as they did in, say, the 17th Century. How simple is that ? Genius !

The appearance was a nice looking deep golden yellow to orange color with a nice one and a half finger white foamy head that dissipates at a nice moderate pace. The lacing is quite foamy and thick. The smell had an extremely citrus and piney hoppiness about it with a sweet malty background arising through. The taste has a wonderful bittersweetness confronting my taste buds. There’s a full bittersweet aftertaste that leads to a nice dry finish. On the palate, this one sits about a light to medium with a nice sessionable quality to it. The carbonation is pretty good for me and for the AIPA style. Overall, mmmm...what a great AIPA.

Strange coding on the bottom of can. Pours a light gold with a small white head. Smell is classic west coast. Hops, sweet malts, floral notes, pine, citrus. Taste is hoppy, piney, sweet, floral, grapefruit, and not too bitter. Good carbonation and goes down too easy with no hint of alcohol. I can see a sixer going down quick on a hot summer night. Very good representation of the style. Not the best, or even close, but I would definitely buy again. Only major drawback is the confusing code on the bottom of the can. Bummer.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a Lagunitas mason glass. Belligerent Mt. Rushmore presidents on the can set the stage.

L: Semi-opaque medium golden pour. 1.5 fingers of foamy white head. Falls fast with sticky lacing.

S: Evergreen and pine mingled with citrus and spice.

T/F: Light crackery malts with a nice big bitter hop profile. Resin and pine... grapefruit and citrus peel, black pepper, and mint. Nice mix of fruit and pine. Medium body... well carbonated and sharp. Finish is bitter citrus.

O: A classic and quality West Coast IPA. A great everyday beer. Drinks great.
