Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
BREW FREE! OR DIE IPA is brewed with some serious west coast attitude. This aromatic golden IPA starts with three different hops to the nose, quickly balanced by a solid malt backbone supporting the firm bitterness. Our top selling beer at the pub, this IPA starts big and finishes clean leaving you wanting more.

21st Amendment IPA
21st Amendment Brewery, California
---from can to stemmed tulip glass---

Appearance
Gold with a big soapy head, good lacing.

Smell
Fresh grapefruit, grass and mild malt aroma. Hints of breadyness.

Taste
Smooth malty sweetness up front, finished with an attack of bitter citrusy hops.

Mouth-feel
Sticky and bitter. Good carbonation. Malt arrives to sweeten you up, hops follow to cleanse your mouth!

Overall
Good American IPA. Doesn’t go above and beyond, but it doesn’t have to. Brew free of die!

I still have an empty can of this beer from 5+ years ago when I thought the artwork was so whimsical -- the Rushmore Four pictured in various altered expressionages.. So I was surprised to find this available where I went to order takeout at a local restaurant. I sipped on BrewFree while I waited for my food. Poured from can into pint glass a murky golden haze, not unpleasant. Mouthfeel: rubbery but not unpleasant; might wish for a little more carbonation? Taste: banana, honey overnotes, banana, Anybody Got Some Spice Besides Nutmeg?, banana. If an IPA to rival other golden IPA's, it seems the hops my tastebuds were reaching for didn't materialize here. Still expecting great things fron 21st Amendment and hoping this was just a case of canned beer maybe left in the restaurant's cooler too long to meet demand.
