Very Good
Brew Free! or Die Blood Orange IPABrew Free! or Die Blood Orange IPA
Notes: Ale brewed with Blood Oranges. Blood Orange Brew Free! is brewed like our original west coast style Brew Free! or Die IPA, but with an abundance of fresh blood orange puree and a twist of citrusy dry hops. Refreshingly different. As Abe would say, “Whatever you are, be a good one.”

This isn't bad at all its rather good honestly it just tastes like fruity pebbles to me, very artificial but I might very well have the Steely Watermelon still stuck on my tongue. Ugh.

Brilliant brassy amber color with a nice rich foamy head. Clear with just mild carbonation. The aroma is predominately blood orange. A bit of pine and citrus on the nose followed by bready malts. The taste is really good if you're looking for a fruited beer. The blood orange reminds me of the flavor from a blood orange flavored soda. Slight resiny piney character and then a mouthfeel of doughy malts. Drinkability is high and I think even people who don't like beers could get into this one. Certainly has more orange character than most beers that try this style. Good.

12oz can. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, khaki-colored head of bubbly foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of blood oranges, toasted caramel and resinous pine. Sweet toasted caramel taste with tart oranges and a piney bitterness.

Bought a single 19.2oz can $3.39 Whole Foods

Smell of oranges
Amber color
Medium-heavy mouthfeel
Medium carbonation
Taste of bitterness hits first, then oranges, pine, wheat
Overall ok. Not something I would buy again. Seems unbalanced with bitterness.

Pours rusty orange with minimal head and lacing. Smell is a little fainter than I expected with piney hops at first, but more sniffs reveal bready/malty sweetness and orange pulp. The blood orange comes out better in the taste, along some hops bitterness. Was hoping it would be more citrusy to the point of puckering, but while you know the orange is there, it's not overpowering. The pine and citrus are about even.

Poured from a can into a tulip glass a 3F yellowish white foam head with lots of loose lace forms. This high water lace and head settles lowly to a 1F floppy top. Color is burnt orange and cloudy at about 80% opacity.

On the nose I detect burst of artificially flavored orange soda, malt and yeast.

Taste presents bitter orange pith with no malt flavor and an astringent alcohol note.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slick dry finish and an alcohol astringency.

Not for me, the fake orange taste and super weird bitterness results in a drain pour.

Blood orange seems like the standard fruit of choice to add to a standard IPA, and it usually works well. I've only had 1 beer from them before and I was not impressed, hopefully this is better

Pours a cloudy orange gold with 3 fingers of billowing, rocky off white head, fading slowly to a cap and leaving decent lacing

The aroma is better than I had expected. Really fresh (even for a possibly old can) with notes of blood orange, papaya, oily grassy hops, and light bready malt

This is actually a nice balance of fruit and hops. It's juicy, but not overly so. The front end greets you with piney hops and not much else. Some orange comes through mid palate to sweeten things up, but the true balance comes after the swallow, imparting notes of peach, papaya, piney hops, and sweet malt

This has a light medium body and almost no carbonation, leading to a smooth drink. Finishes mostly dry with a touch of stickiness

21st Amendment has redeemed themselves, this was really good. Maybe I'll have to try more from them

Drinking this at home.
Poured from a 12 ounce can into a pint glass.
Appears golden amber with a nice white foamy head that dropped quickly to a nice 1/2 inch cap.
Smells sweet citrusy orange, grapefruit
Taste follows the nose, definitely hop forward, building citric as you continue to drink.
Mouth feel is medium plus for the style.
Overall a nice citrus juicy IPA. That I would definitely drink again.

Poured from a 19.2 ounce can into a shaker pint.

Look - Was expecting more blood orange color, but it's not really there. Golden honey body, slightly cloudy, with a persistent meringue head on it.

Smell - Oranges. Very distinctly oranges.

Taste - Watery oranges with a tinge of alcohol. Bitter in a "chewing an orange peel" kind of way.

Feel - The mouthfeel isn't unpleasant, but at the same time, I don't really care for it. Thin and prickly, but it almost fits with the flavor.

Overall - Bought it as a cheap tallboy just because. It's not a bad beer, but I don't think I'll be buying it again.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a golden amber color with a huge billowy head of white foam. The head has a fantastic level of retention, very slowly fading over time to leave a ton of streaky lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is very strong of a ruby red grapefruit aroma mixed with some sweeter orange and a moderately bready aroma. Along with these aromas comes a little bit of a tropical fruits of tangerine and mango as well as a touch of a pine and herbal smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a bready and slightly fruity taste with a good showing of blood orange, sweet ruby red grapefruit, and a bit of tropical mango and tangerine. Along with these flavors is a moderate showing of a grapefruit and a bit of a herbal hop. The grapefruit gets even stronger as the taste advances initially, only fading a little bit as the taste moves onto the end. Some light earthy taste join at the very end, and with a surge of the blood orange, one is left with a slightly sweeter orange and citrusy grapefruit hopped taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly thicker and chewier side in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is moderate. For the nice blood orange flavors and grapefruit, it gives a nice sorta thick “orange juice like” feel which matches the flavors well and baths the tongue in the nice blend of flavors.
Overall – A quite tasty and citrus forward IPA. A nice tasty citrus treat.

Wonderfully balanced - the blood orange cuts the hoppy bitterness without overwhelming it or tasting sweet or fruity. Mild malt, very smooth and refreshing.

Picked this up on a whims notice to have a new IPA at home. I love fruit IPA and this is my first beer from 21st Amendment. I personally like to pour out some of the carbonation and get a decent head from it so I am not basing my review around that. The taste is fairly mild and smooth for being a 7%. Very smooth for a citrus and overall pleasant. I live in California so I think this is a great year rounder but for the midwest or New England I would leave this for summer and fall.

Very crisp, slightly bitter IPA sampled on tap at a local restaurant. Pours a slightly orange-yellow color with some fluffy white head and small rings of lingering lacing. Smells of some crisp orange and tangerine citrus hops, also some lemon, malt and vanilla. Taste follows the nose, good crisp amount of zest bitterness - almost reminds me of an Italian aperitif. Smooth mild slightly thin mouthfeel and good carbonation. Very enjoyable.

Type: 12-oz. can

From: Gregg
Price: n/a
Purchased: n/a; Received Nov. 12, 2019
Consumed: Nov. 19, 2019
Reviewed as: American IPA
Misc.: Canned on Sept. 27, 2019 (I think)

Thanks, Gregg!

Got this and a bunch of other beers from Gregg. Most of them weren’t that fresh, especially the IPAs. I believe this one was Sept. 27, 2019 on the can, but it was hard to decipher. This one would have to better than the regular Brew Free! or Die, which I gave a 3.75. I’m a sucker for blood orange, though. I gave a previous can of this on Untappd a 4 and wrote, “I’m a sucker for blood orange beer, but probably outstanding. Full review later.” Hops mentioned were Centennial, Chinook, Cascade, Amarillo for flavor, Mosaic, Chinook, Centennial, Amarillo for dry and CTZ for bitter.

Poured an amber semi-clear color with 3-to-4 fingers of frothy white head. Some sporadic bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Very good spotty lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled tangerine, blood orange, candied orange, Amarillo, red grapefruit, citrus, light pineapple, guava, menthol and herbal. About the same from can, maybe with the addition of passion fruit and peach. (Smell - 4.25)

Tasted wasn’t quite as good as the nose, but followed it. Got tangerine, blood orange, candied orange, Amarillo, red grapefruit, guava, pineapple, citrus, menthol cough drops, herbal and pine. For the hops mentioned, besides Amarillo, I got dry Centennial and maybe Mosaic. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, citrusy finish. (Feel - 4.00)

Was an outstanding beer overall. Not my favorite blood orange IPA, but certainly on the higher side. (Overall - 4.00)

part of a 12 pack sampler sold in Giant in PA (cans poured in glass)

Look- Hazy yellow/orange . color with some particulates. Thick head that stays around for quite some time.

Smell- Citrus = soprt pf a grapefruit and lemon/lime, hints of bread and some yeast.

Taste- Very "blood orange" on the whole - not a hint of "whatever" like some brews and you can tell it's blood orange and not just orange - slight pine notes with a mild malt to bind it all.

Feel- Well carbonated and has some body from the but is masked by the sweet dry after finish

O- I would buy more if i ran into it again

Six pack of cans picked up at Total Wine in Seattle, Washington.
Code instead of dating. Served in a pint glass.

Look- Slightly hazy golden orange color. Nice rocky bright white head that hangs around, moderate lacing. Some carbonation streams visible.

Smell- As one would expect, big citrus (orange, tangerine, pithy grapefruit and lemon/lime), resinous pine, bready malt, light mango and berries, floral/spicy notes.

Taste- Sweet orange citrus heavy followed by moderate pine and pithy citrus, some tropical fruit notes with a nice malty backbone.

Feel- Medium/light bodied. Kind of sticky with a dry bitter finish. Medium carbonation on the tongue.

O- A nice IPA. You can definitely tell the orange is mainly from real juice and not all from the hops.

Not the slightest haze on the dark amber brew. Tall, long-lasting pile of foam in the Blanche de Chambly flute. Unmistakable and insistent aroma of orange. You could even say it's the slightly off-odor of actual blood oranges. Sharp from the first sip. There's a little malty sweetness but the flavor is all citrus.

Quite a bitter aftertaste with the citrus pith note becoming tiresome. If this was reviewed as a Fruit/Veg beer it might be more accurate. This is not a very good IPA, but it's a tour de force of fruit doping. From the 12 oz can purchased at Trader Joes.

19.2 oz tall boy can purchased from Plaid Pantry convenience store in West Salem OR.
Pours a lighter copper colored body with a nice inch high rocky/frothy dirty white head.
Very nice strong aromas of oranges..seems real orange not artificial..some floral hop underneath. But real the orange aroma dominates.
Taste has more of the floral/citrus hops but the bitter sweet blood orange flavor is still there.
Nice medium well balanced mouth feel,,with semi drying finish
Nice beer for a convenience store
