Very Good
Brew Free! or Die Blood Orange IPABrew Free! or Die Blood Orange IPA
Notes: Ale brewed with Blood Oranges. Blood Orange Brew Free! is brewed like our original west coast style Brew Free! or Die IPA, but with an abundance of fresh blood orange puree and a twist of citrusy dry hops. Refreshingly different. As Abe would say, “Whatever you are, be a good one.”

I need to go Zen on this review because this beer is all about the experience. Golden silkiness on tongue. A pale copper for the eyes. Orange for the nose. A beautiful experience for the soul. Wow. If ever I get around to putting together the perfect list of beers for your next pool party this beer is a contender for the number one spot. Smoother than Nat King Cole, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra combined. 'Scuse Me. Time for a moonlight dip in the pool.

Appearance: Pours a slightly clear, orange, but copper color with a medium white head. (4.0)
Aroma: HUGE aroma of blood orange. Some raspberry and pineapple. But so much blood orange. Slight bitterness. (4.0)
Flavor: Massive amount of blood orange. A good amount of rind and pith which gives it a slight bitterness. Mild pineapple and raspberry too. No malt detected. Tastes like whole fresh squeezed orange juice made from whole blood oranges that maintains the rind and pith bitterness. Finishes dry. The bitterness is interesting that it comes from the citrus pith rather than pine. No pine detected. It reminds you of a tropical cocktail on vacation. Blood orange all the way. (4.25)
Feel: Lighter bodied, crisp, but smooth. Bitter is only mild. (3.75)

Overall: I honestly didn't really know for sure what a blood orange tastes like, but immediately after smelling this beer you know exactly what a blood orange is. This is an extremely unique citrus IPA. i'm not a citrus head, but it's better than most "citrus" IPAs and I'd definitely recommend trying it if you can. (Final Rating 4.08)

pours a golden/light copper with an off white head. good lacing. decent retention.
nose is a ton of ripe orange. subtle piney hop character.
taste follows. ripe, juicy orange dominates. covering a subtle piney, bitter hoppiness. unpleasant alcohol heat. Yes, there is definitely blood orange. too much, though, in my opinion. it totally dominates and covers up any IPA flavors.

Was more grapefruit than orange imo but definitely on the orange rind side of taste. Medium mouthfeel nice aromatic citrus brings out the very nice flavor.

I love the twist on an outstanding ipa incorporating blood orange! This is just as outstanding and appreciate the effort that went into this. Well done!

Cloudy bright gold with thick, fluffy head. Smells of pungent blood orange, kind of orange candy, with light tropical fruit. The flavor, too, is predominantly orange, and the typical bitterness makes it reminiscent of orange pith, but much stronger in flavor. Really nice and different from a typical IPA but it's punchy enough I wouldn't want to drink it endlessly. Nice thicker mouthfeel with sharp carbonation bite.

No date on the can. Very non descriptive look. Virtually no head. Certainly drinkable, but the flavor is off putting. I think they tried too hard on this one. Artificial orange flavor. Tastes like a hoppy, malty IPA with orange candy. But this one missed its mark. Wouldn't buy again. Much prefer their regular IPA over this one.

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Clear bodied mostly, with a pale amber color appearance somewhere between orange and yellow lemon fruit color. Classic simple egg white head, real nice retention and classic size of three to four fingers. Pill like lacing and some good staying power. Looks like a very nice classic West coast IPA.

Very nice aroma. Definitely grrabbing much of the blood orange quality, with a good fruit citrus that isn't pithy, but is also adding some real nice candy like hop oils and zesty classic fruit bitterness. It'a bit one dimensional, but it's very dialed in wonderfuly and nice with good balance of mixed fruit and hop scents of zest bitterness and citrus sweetness.

Palate is quite surprising. A simple malt backbone sticks out to simply let the hops and fruit quality play forward. Great simple juiced orange quality, with excellent almost mineral zesty like flavors. Excellent hop bitterness on the finish to match and balance out, and even some matching biscuit cookie sweetness of malt to add more joy in the mix. Breaded pastry and sweet orange, with a candy like zest feeling and tasting nearly like penny store candy, but with a more oily finish and bitterness to match.

Very surprised by this one, real nice fruit contrast on old school West coast IPA style.

Pours golden amber with a thick foamy head. Smells of citrus, more grapefruit than orange. The taste is citrus, mostly grapefruity. Medium low bitterness. Great hop aroma and flavor. Very sessionable. I think of ourdoors, the beach or a cookout when I taste this beer. Definitely recommend for an easy drinking IPA.

Pours a filthy dark orange. You can smell the blood orange. Very heavy presence of blood orange which is great. Doesn't taste artificial. Also a good balance of hops with a bitter finish. Great fruit beer.

Copper orange with a haze, loads of carbonation and a finger of yellowish head.

Smells of bright and fruity orange flavours, fresh squeezed orange juice and orange candies.

Tastes citrusy, with grapefruit pith, a dull bitterness and a biscuity malt.

Medium body with medium to little carbonation. Covers the abv very well.

I got this at Safeway and am drinking it in Redding, May 12th, 2019.

Mostly clear, orange beer with a white head. Smells mainly of blood orange with some detectable sweetness and some floral hops. Sweet and bitter with a lot of blood orange flavor. Delivers on what the label says and is pretty tasty.

I would have thought more people would think this reeked of artificial flavoring. Tried it more than once. Ultimately poured he whole 6-pack, once try at a time.

Brew Free or Die Blood Orange pours a lighter copper color, with a small, but long lasting and lacing head. Aroma is big orange. Flavor has a big sweet orange flavor, with a mellow bitter finish. Good body and feel. Overall a very nice balanced orange IPA.

My new go-to beer! It's so refreshing and well balanced. Fruity, but not overpowering like some other fruit based beers. Great aroma and tastes so crisp. So far, the best cirtus ipa I've tasted

A: crystal clear; deep gold in color; 2 finger off white head that receded to a thin cap; nice lacing;

S: blood orange;

T: blood orange from start to finish; some blood orange zest bitterness comes in after the middle and stays through the end; moderate bitterness on the finish;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: for a fruit IPA, this is nicely done - the blood orange comes through nicely;

12 oz. Can

Poured into a tulip a pretty nice hazy dark golden yellow/orange color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger off-white head, which also leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, blood orange, grapefruit, mango), piney. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, blood orange, grapefruit, mango), nice pineyness. Medium body, ABV is hidden nicely, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty brew, nice to see it around here.

Transparent copper in color; mostly clear, but lots of floaties. A semi-aggressive pour yields an enormous pillowy white head with excellent retention, and sheets of lacing.
Smells immediately of sweet blood orange juice, red grapefruit, some orange and grapefruit zest, and a hint of sweet malt underneath it.
Tastes like biting into a blood orange. Sweet and juicy with some tartness. Blood orange and pink grapefruit juice with some grapefruit and blood orange peel and zest. Some toast and caramel underneath it from the malt. Some additional notes of grapefruit and orange from the hops. A hint of pine on the finish. Just a brief and light bitterness.
Creamy mouthfeel from the rolling carbonation and fluffy head, smooth and crisp and dry with some resin.
Overall, a great citrus-fruited IPA. A lot of these citrus IPAs are boring and monotonous, but this is one is great and actually benefits from the addition of blood orange.

Pours cloudy orange with a chunky head that lasts a long time. The aroma is of tangerines, citrus and pale malts. The taste is hoppy with a sweet citrus edge and lots of malt sweetness and grainyness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with light carbonation. Light bitterness and lots of residual sweetness in the finish.

Nice blood orange flavors in this otherwise malt dominated IPA. Interesting and worth a try.

12 oz can. Pours hazy orange gold with a medium creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet candied orange with some green hops and earthy malt.

The flavor is lots of sweet candied orange with earthy malts and a kind of chemical bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, very sweet fruit dominates over some off notes.

Very interesting look. The hue is almost orange soda-ish, though there's certainly some haziness. Also produces a nice loose white cap with some decent retention. The smell is in the same vein, though it's a bit more off-putting in its artificiality. I guess that could be because I'm not super into citrus generally, though. In the taste, it comes back around. The citrus becomes a complimentary factor, rather than the dominant one. Hops are nice and sharp, though not quite to the edge of bitterness, at least not until the back end. The mouthfeel is nice and smooth and the ABV is well-hidden. Overall, an uneven beer, but one I don't hate in spite of my typical distaste for the style.

DATE: November 16, 2018... OCCASION: having finished the family game of Monopoly, the adults need to laugh and drink... GLASSWARE: Stoudts pint... a transparent, golden body that showers the glass upward with a storm of effervescence, building a head that is a half-finger white and blanketing like snow... the draw is intense sour orange, creamy vanilla, berries, light tea, and garden vegetables... a mild-bodied experience, smooth and agreeable... its flavor profile is rather singular, sour and juicy orange, with little else that deviates from its intention.... as an add-in to the fifteen pack of IPAs, not too bad...

O: A solid IPA that is very blood orange forward. Easy to drink. Good take on the base

Mostly clear burnt gold with a thin, fuzzy khaki blanket leaving some reaching arms of lace, this one tastes like Hi-C and Tang with a bitter, crazy pine accent. Rather have a regular.
