This American session ale packs a lot of hop and malt flavor into a refreshingly lower-alcohol brew, making it the perfect beer to have on hand when you have a little history to make.

Serving glass: Poured from can into Nonic Imperial Pint. Julian code that begins with 1010 (I assume January 10, 2011).
Appearance: Clear amber-orange with foamy off-white and pretty nice lacing.
Smell: Spicy, citrusy hop aroma with an emphasis on orange. Some light biscuit underneath.
Taste: Great hop taste with orange, grapefruit and a nice spiciness. Dry malts add to the overall complexity with biscuit, tea and earthiness. Ends spicy and somewhat bitter.
Feel: Light but firm body with moderate carbonation. Very dry finish. Proper Bitter feel.
Drinkability: Fantastic session ale. Brewers really need to make more beers like this - low abv, big taste. And this is not an IPA, not an APA; it is a Bitter that uses a shitload of American hops. Otherwise, it fits the style perfectly.

Well, let me put it this way, Bitter American certainly lives up to it's name! To be honest though, the bitterness is what makes this beer. The taste is truly unique to the beer.

Golden color, good clarity, 1/2" white head. Hops provide a metallic light edge, grapefruit, bitter.
More bitterness but appropriately placed and quantified. Grapefruit, lightly toasted pale malts. Simple. Effective. Manages a high degree of flavor on a light body. They really should bring this one back.

Poured from a can into a glass (so many previous dittoes, never again).

Perhaps the perfect session ale. It's tinted darkly, and it smells like hops. Loads of dank American hops. After the nose, the taste is a bit of a shock. The first thought is thin, but not it's not *thin* it's just not incredibly boozy. The taste is rooted in a surprisingly robust maltiness and laced with piney hops all along the flavor. Highly recommended.
