Hell Or High Watermelon Wheat BeerHell Or High Watermelon Wheat Beer
Notes: Like Lady Liberty, we stand for independence and perseverance. In the pursuit of innovative beer, there is no obstacle too great. No journey too long. No fruit too gigantic. This American wheat beer is brewed with real watermelon, for a flavor that’s surprisingly crisp, dry and refreshing—summer in a can.

This is usually not kind of beer I go for. I don't really like watermelon flavored stuff, though I like the actual fruit. I don't have high hopes for this but it could surprise me

Pours a lightly cloudy dark gold with a finger of white head that quickly reduces to a ring and leaves minimal lacing

The nose is chock full of artificial watermelon, which actually smells a little tart surprisingly. Otherwise, the aroma is pretty bland with mild wheat and spice

Oh boy, the taste is just as bland, maybe even more so. On the front end, it's watermelon with some strawberry to back it up, which is nice, but there's not much more going on. Post swallow, it is essentially the same, but a bit of earthy wheat comes in

Obviously light bodied, this has pretty high carbonation, so it certainly drinks easy. It finishes mostly dry, but is too sweet to keep me coming back for more

This wasn't awful, just nothing to write home about. Maybe this would be good for a day on the beach or with some seafood

This is one of those beers you know you weren't going to like, but since it made its appearance at a festival, you daringly took your sample pour for the tick since that is better than having to try and plow through 12 oz or an entire six pack of the stuff.

1st time was at Canfest. Can't believe someone actually paid money to buy that name only to abandon it right afterwards. Lulz at investment types trying to make money on beerfests. Pours a faded yellow color, perhaps some actual watermelon influencing the weak color. The aroma has watermelon to it, tough to make a strong watermelon push out of a beer.

Taste is relatively inoffensive. Mild blonde ale with watermelon flavoring. Light all around. Good amount of carbonation to it. Didn't find it to be "dry".

My favorite part of writing this review today, after Labor Day weekend, is I drank some good beer (not this one) and ate watermelon. I think that is a better play than drinking a mild watermelon beer.

L- Pours a nice see through light golden color

F- Light bodied wheat beer but feels too thin for sugary taste

T- Watermelon flavor-undergoes secondary fermentation process with real watermelon and no natural flavors. Low bitterness with only 17 IBU

O- Delicious seasonal light beer- great for a summer day

Pours a semi-filtered transparent lighter gold hue with a less than 2 finger head that quickly dissolves. There is a bit lace on the rim but a light topping that has settled. Initially, I smelled wheat with no real sweetness, at least until the head was nearly gone and there is a faint bubble-gum watermelon scent that you really need to look for.

The tasting includes a lot more sweet candy-like watermelon flavor upfront, with mid notes of abundant sugar, that finishes light-medium bodied with a predominate wheat flavor. There is hardly any hop character and this is mainly a very 'liquidly' sweet beer.

The marketing is confusing since this is now brewed in Ithica, NY and still shows the Golden Gate bridge and Lady Liberty resting herself to have a bite of watermellon... this doesn't make sense outside of paying hommage to their former roots in California. The 2020 redesigned 12 oz can showcases more watermelons split on the barge with considerably more clouds.

12 oz can. Pours slightly hazy orange gold with a medium fizzy white head that goes to a thin film that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is wheat malt and some funky candy watermelon.

The flavor is sweet watermelon jolly ranchers with a little wheat malt. The mouthfeel is pretty light to medium bodied and watery with low carbonation.

Overall, too sweet with fake candy fruit.

12 ounce can into pint glass. MEN10 can code, assumed to be 5/18/2019. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy medium golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big lightly tart/tangy watermelon, cucumber, fruit skin, lemon, lime, peach, pear, melon, apricot, red apple, white grape, wheat, cracker, and white bread dough; with lighter notes of banana, peppercorn, clove, herbal, floral, wood, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of watermelon, fruity/light spicy yeast, pale/wheat malts, and light earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of big lightly tart/tangy watermelon, cucumber, fruit skin, lemon, lime, peach, pear, melon, apricot, red apple, white grape, wheat, cracker, and white bread dough; with lighter notes of banana, peppercorn, clove, herbal, floral, wood, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal, floral, woody, grassy bitterness; peppery yeast spiciness; and fruit/wheat tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of lightly tart/tangy watermelon, cucumber, fruit skin, lemon, lime, peach, pear, melon, apricot, red apple, white grape, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light banana/peppercorn/clove, herbal, floral, wood, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of watermelon, fruity/light spicy yeast, pale/wheat malts, and light earthy hop notes; with a great malt/bitter/spicy/tartness balance; and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spicy/tart/tangy notes. Medium-plus carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/grainy, and fairly sticky/acidic/tangy mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.9%. Overall this is an awesome fruited American pale wheat ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of watermelon, fruity/light spicy yeast, pale/wheat malts, and light earthy hop notes; very smooth, refreshing, and fairly crisp/clean to drink with the mildly bitter/spicy/tart/tangy/drying finish. Fantastic soft feel, flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Awesome balance of authentic watermelons, American wheat yeast, and clean pale/wheat malts; with solid earthy hop presence/balance. Mild residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example. Not overwhelming on any aspect. Outstanding summer beer all around.

Pours a slight hazy gold, a tall thin white head that quickly dissipated. Smell of watermelon jolly ranchers, some orange, bread, light yeast. A sweet watermelon taste up front, followed by some bitter hop and light bread yeast. Body is a bit thin and leaves little after taste. This would be good if you were hot and thirsty and on sale.

12oz can into a Willi pint.

A: Pours a slightly hazy straw gold with 1"+ of desnse white head that recedes slowly. Retention and lacing are above-average.

S: Yeasty and fruit sweet with some traces of watermelon. Not bad, although quite one-dimensional.

T: Opens with pleasant light maltiness which quickly develops some fruit sweetness across the mid palate that does eventually resemble watermelon. Finishes off-sweet. Still one-dimensional but very well executed.

M: Fairly light with above-average carb. Well suited to the flavor profile.

O: It makes up for a lack of complexity by being so darn well crafted. Everything is in balance, it's really quite drinkable and not too sweet.

Hazy straw color with a white head. Smells sweet, grassy, watermelon-y. A little too bitter, but the fruit comes through in a nice way, and the wheat gives it a nice breadiness. Light to medium bodied. One of the better fruit beers and a good summer beer.

Had poured as a rotating tap. The look was very inviting: golden coloration with a great clarity when looking through the glass. Scent and taste more-or-less lined up together: very heavy on the watermelon -- almost candy link -- with some subtle hints from maltiness. Was very refreshing and would recommend trying at least once for the fun flavor.

Bright gold with some cloudiness. Mild cereal and watermelon jolly rancher are in the scent and taste. This beer is crisp, sweet, and clean. Faint watermelon flavour over warm sugar and tight champagne bubbles. A good head if poured with vigour. A sweet, simple, easy-drinking beer. No beer I've had comes close to being as refreshing as this beer. You absolutely must try this beer while gnawing on some salty jerky or some sticky BBQ.

Best from the can- packed in an icy cooler. When the can is cold enough to hurt your lips, you're there!

Here in Pittsburgh, this beer is seasonal. My friends and I always send each other an excited pic over the phone when we first spot it each year. Kind of an unofficial celebration of spring.

Poured into a wheat beer glass. 2 inches of creamy white head, semi opaque golden yellow. Smell is almost non existent. Tastes like watermelon, malt and hops. Feels well carbonated finishes juicy. Overall a drinkable wheat beer. The watermelon tastes too strong not to have artificial flavor added. Think watermelon jolly rancher-Watermelon juice is mostly water, it would be super hard to get this flavor without adjuncts-Maybe I am wrong but I do not think so-

On the light side of gold with a slight haze and very minimal visible carbonation. An initially large loose head fades quite quickly. I'm confused by the smell. There's some watermelon in there, but what there's a lot more of is skunk. My wife says she recalls "fruity kimchee." The taste isn't a whole lot better. It's got some Jolly Rancher-ness to it, but none of the wheat beer characteristics I typically seek out are there with any prominence. Mouthfeel is right at average; smooth, not too heavy. Overall, though, they have taken what I probably wouldn't have found to be a great wheat beer and taken it down a notch with the fruit influence.

My go-to for easy-drinking. I like how it's a cyborg, how it's fake tropical. The finish is where this beer shines, because that's where the watermelon slips in, lingers, and goes away, with the swallow. The watermelon could have more presence, tho. But at the same time, it's nuance-like status within the overall tasting-sequence makes the desire for another sip stronger. One leads to another. Two beers, then four. Backyards, guitars, chairs, something to smoke, something to eat. And this to sip.
