This is an ok summer, session beer. It smells and has an initial taste of watermelon, but it quickly turns into the taste of corn flakes. It ok, its easy to drink and the initial taste is ok, but the cornflake aftertaste is not welcomed.

DATE: July 17, 2016... OCCASION: collecting myself after a great weekend... GLASSWARE: Blanche de Chambly pokal... a discouraging sallow yellow body with an off-white head that flatlines immediately.. a sparse bubble here or there doesn’t endear its appearance any more... faint watermelon and candied sugars on the aroma-- some perfumed hops, though the wheat doesn’t really put forth much in the profile... the body is soft, smooth, with enough effervescence for much of the sip.. flavor is rather one-dimensional, with the promised watermelon not really "hell high," while the sugars are sweet and slightly pungent... lilac and sweet wine too... no lacing throughout the drink... tough to knock a beer that intends to refresh with fruitiness, but there isn’t much to endear this beer to a second can... many other fruit beers out there that deliver a more refreshing, more flavorful profile... one of the few (the only?) 21st Amendment offerings that I have found lacking...

tough to make watermelon work in a beer, and they have done a nice job keeping this from being too sugary, but the watermelon seems more like a candy or a juice drink than a natural piece of fruit, and so its odd in a very light and mild wheat brew. this is cool when its ice cold and super hot out, even cool in a celebration where you might spray beer everywhere, but for contemplative beer drinking, it leaves a bit to be desired. they cant all be intellectual projects though, and so we have to appreciate this for what it is. its a really easy drinking, not too sweet, light bodied, highly carbonation fruity but not too fruity, wheaty but not too wheaty summer brew that has plenty of capacity for refreshment. i reckon its a little underrated on here, the juicy watermelon goes well with the pale wheat, and its fermented down pretty clean. right from the can at a music festival or out on a boat or something is where this one belongs. one of the better large scale watermelon beers i have had to be honest, but i must confess the field is a little weak. appealing for one or two, less so beyond that.

This beer was part of a variety pack. I can't express how disappointing and vile this was. The flavor was more like rind rather than watermelon - the white slightly bitter outer layer between the skin and pink sweet part. There was only a slight hint of sweetness buried under the musty rind bitterness. Totally disappointing since the other types included in the variety pack were pretty decent.

L: Pours a light golden straw color with a hint of light green glow to it when you hold it to the light. Minimal head recedes quickly to a thin halo of mist.

S: Almost no smell. Hmmmm. A soft nose of malt with a twist of lemon.

T: Tastes like a basic lager with an aftertaste of artificial watermelon (aka jolly rancher). It's not too artificial tasting though and I kinda like it.

F: A bit of extra zing to the over carbonation and a dry but not too dry finish.

Overall I am glad I tried it. Would be a good one for a hot day out by the pool. I probably wouldn't try it again but it would be a nice one to help a non beer appreciator over the gap.

This is the year of watermelon beers. This is the 3rd one I have had. Not bad. You do taste the watermelon. Not just essence. My favorite of the 3 I have had. Followed by Ballast's Eldorado Watermelon, and New Belgium Heavy watermelon. Still fruit/vegetable beers are not my style. If you want to try one, try this one.

Meh. This beer is the definition of meh, but I'd drink it all day on a hot day. It's an underimpressive wheat beer, a little corny and grassy. The watermelon is huge in the nose and present in the aftertaste as well. Some good qualities, super refreshing, but it relies on the (in my opinion) somewhat gimmicky watermelon taste.

The beer pours a light pale yellow with a fizzy head. I get at first a nice hoppy wheat ale smell but it is quickly taken over by watermelon. The fruit and wheat ale is actually very balanced. But both feel very average tasting.

A - Pours a hazy straw yellow with a one finger fizzy white head. Light amount of soapy lacing.

S - Aroma is mostly wheat and corn with a faint amount of watermelon.

T - The taste starts with the watermelon upfront followed by the wheat and some light grassy hops.

M - Light bodied with medium carbonation. Crisp mouthfeel with a dry finish.

O - Not terrible and would be an okay beer for a hot summer day.

Very cloudy yellow gold body, fizzy white head entirely disappears, a few lazy streams of carbonation on the sides of the glass. Nose is primarily bready wheat and some funky hops, almost like urine which is actually welcome here, with a touch of candy watermelon. The namesake is more apparent on the tongue, very sweet and candy-like, with a good base of 'beer flavor'- wheat, hop bitterness, a touch of hop spice. The aftertaste has an unpleasant gritty earthiness, part chalk, part burnt bran muffin. Body is quite fizzy and light, which makes it highly drinkable and highly burpy (producing more unpleasant aftertaste).
Not really a bad beer, considering they balanced real beer flavor and delicate watermelon flavor pretty darn well, but something went awry with the aftertaste, not to mention the fizzy malternative-looking visage. Beyond that, OK.

Light golden color with a slightly fizzy appearance. Bubbles hugging the glass.

Aroma of mostly wheat, not picking up much else.

Taste: faint watermelon, its more noticeable in the finish. A bit of sweetness, crisp finish, not dry.
Honestly, not a bad fruit beer.. normally I hate them but this great for a summer day or beach beer.

Type: 12-oz. can
Glass: Modern Times willybecher pint glass
From: Barons in Alpine, Calif.
Price: $8.99 for a 6-pack
Purchased: April 22, 2016
Consumed: April 23, 2016
Misc.: Enjoy by June 30, 2016

I’m a sucker for fruit beers and really don’t look at the ratings or reviews beforehand. Picked it up for a party and nobody had any of the six. Have been wanting to try this for some time now, but kind of think I will be disappointed.

Poured a yellow, golden, clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of off-white, fizzy head. Lots of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. Minimal wet lacing. Minimal retention. (Sight - 2.75)

First thought on the smell was not much watermelon. When digging in got vomit, hay, grassy hops, hints of watermelon, corn, bread, earthiness and Cheerios cereal. (Smell - 2.75)

Tasted a bit better than the nose, getting that watermelon first. Not as potent as Ballast Point’s Watermelon Dorado and I kind of like that in some regards. Also got candied Jolly Rancher candy combo of watermelon and strawberry, honeydew melon, hints of cucumber, grassy hops, hay, manure, Cheerios candy and bread. (Taste - 3.00)

Light body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. OK for the summer I guess. (Feel - 3.00)

This just didn’t do it for me. Bummed that nobody had this 6-pack that I bought for my daughter’s party and I now have to drink the other five. (Overall - 3.00)

This was just okay. Body is dark straw colored, initially has a thick and bubbly head that quickly dissipates down to nothing. Smells...not quite watermelon-y. It has a fruity smell to it but honestly it was like nothing I could place, certainly didn't smell like real fruit, but rather something candied and artificial. Taste is similarly strange. It's predominantly wheaty and malt forward, but there's a hint of something like watermelon rind. I didn't get any watermelon juice type flavors or anything else resembling fruit in this. If I wasn't aware it was a watermelon beer, I probably would have never guessed that flavor was any part of watermelon. Feel is pretty light and thin, high carbonation. I thought this beer was a little one dimensional and with a strange, not-quite-watermelon-but-vaguely-fruity quality to it. It would be a solid wheat beer if not for the watermelon, which just seems to muddle it up more.

A friend and I were picking some beer to enjoy on the beach, I saw this one and had to try it. I'm not a huge fan of fruity beer, but this one was pretty tasty. Smells like you'd expect, watermelony, ale-like. Feels a lot like water, not much carbonation, tastes like you squeezed watermelon juice into a good ale. If I were wanting a good light summer beer, this would be one of my top choices.

Sampled on tap at Chug Pub, San Francisco. Glad we got the chance to sample this. The brewery was packed after the Giants game and the doorman's assistant was making dolphin noises or some such thing. It was absolutely ridiculous and dickheadish, but more on that later. This is a light, inoffensive beer with hints of watermelon. Great summer beer!

Look-It pours a very hazy golden pale yellow with a swirling vortex of sparkling beauty like a wonderland of white pleasure and sensitivity like you’ve never felt before.

Smell-I smell yeast and watermelon like you’d expect. It also smells a bit like a dandelion baking in the hot summer sun.

Taste-It is crisp and dry. The flavor is watermelon at first with the full flavor spectrum of the watermelon red flesh. I notice the yeast component coming in later which cuts the mild sweetness making for a dry and crisp finish. This is a light-bodied brew with plenty to offer.

Overall- It isn’t as mind-blowing as I thought. But then again, I could not do nearly as good as this 21st Amendment Brewery.

Hell Or High Watermelon Wheat Beer - 21st Amendment brewery is a nice summer wheat beer. It is a very typical and standard product when it comes to wheat / fruit beer. On the pour from the can , I noticed a nice head, but that quickly faded away ! The color on the pour was a hazy golden color.Taste is a malted wheat with a hint of watermelon. With the ABV being 4.9% this can be a crushable beer/session beer. This is very refreshing on a hot day for sure. One thing I did notice in the Philly NJ, Delaware, area is that this beer does not stay on the store shelves long. Once it hits the shelf, it seems like it is gone ! I think this beer will grow on me as time goes by. As for watermelon beer , this one hits the mark !

Pours a two finger white head that fades quickly leaving no lace. Hazy straw color. Light-medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Faint watermelon and hop nose, flavor is light funky watermelon, slight hoppy finish. $2.49 for a 12oz green can from Julio's Liquors Westborough, Ma. Best by Jun 2016. Can has this as a seasonal release.

Bought a can at the Beer Shop in East Longmeadow. The beer pours with a murky straw yellow appearance and a medium sized head that quickly dissipates into a thin ring around the glass. Nice aromas of wheat, bread, and a berry fruit smell. Taste is sour, lighter than I expected watermelon taste, mixed with a light grain texture. The mouthfeel took me awhile to enjoy. After a few sips, I really began to enjoy the beer's body; it is not too crisp, but its not watery or flat. Its a unique body that helps the beer be a refreshing. Overall, the beer grew on me, especially the mouthfeel. Could use a stronger watermelon presence, but overall, not too bad.

Nothing special going on here. It seems to me that they brewed it with the rind of the watermelon. It has a juicy yet bitter & drying body. Average but nothing to write home over.

Very refreshing beer, acts terrific as a starter beer for a session of drinking. Distinct wheat taste at first followed by a somewhat drastic change to watermelon. Slight lingering taste of wheat. Overall a decent beer I would drink again, would like to see a smoother blending of flavors.

Hazy very pale gold color. Nice white head, super tight and persistent.
Aroma wheat with a whiff of watermelon.
Taste is malted wheat with a decent hint of watermelon.

I don't understand some of the very negative reviews of this beer.
C'mon guys.
If you've ever brewed something like this you'd understand the difficulty of harmonizing these
Subtle flavors.
Maybe if it were 10% blended with artisianal Sumerian Goat chocolate and aged on 40 yr old
Whisky barrels, it would be worthy!

It is what is billed as, a 4.9% American wheat with watermelon!
It may not be a masterpiece, but it is a good refreshing fruit wheat beer.

Look (3.75): Has the classic style look of a somewhat filtered wheat ale. Some major carbonation to this brew, as expected per wheat ales.

Smell (3.5): Sweet vanilla and biscuity aromas something off this guy. Mild watermelon in the nose.

Taste (3.75): Again, starts out sweet and bready like (biscuits) and then has a nice mild watermelon background and finish. Nothing to intense, just really sessionable.

Mouthfeel (3.5): Soft and supple feel to it. Light bodied and the carbonation bubbles slightly scrub the palate.

Overall (3.25): One of the enjoyable spring/summer time brews. Something easy sipping that you can drink all day, not an intensely flavorable brew by any means.
