A: Pours a faintly hazy orange color. A fairly tall, orange-tinted head pops up with medium-dense frothy texture. Retention is good, and some nice concentric rings of lace stick to the glass as the head recedes.

S: Only the faintest maltiness in the nose, with some light sugar cookie notes. Hop notes are brash and vibrant, with big citric and resinous character. A bit of tropical fruitiness and a sort of candied/perfumey vibe. Alcohol is noticeable.

T: Some pale malt and cookie-like sweetness up front. Slight caramel hint. Hop bitterness is strong and fairly blunt. Citric flavor is prominent, followed by loads of tropical (think fruit cocktail), resiny, and candied flavors. A bit of oaky/woody character, but it's relatively minor. Alcohol is quite present, adding heat and a minor bite into the finish.

M: Medium-full body. Carbonation is smooth and very supple, lending a nice mouthfeel. Hop bitterness and rather aggressive alcohol contribute to a dry and somewhat boozy finish.

D: This is a nice DIPA, but it is flawed. I like the hop profile a lot, and the malt bill allows the hops to shine through impressively. I also dig the first 2/3 of the mouthfeel, before the alcohol kicks in. It's still enjoyable, but the alcohol is a bit more apparent than I'd prefer.

From notes. Canned 6/16/11, reviewed 7/16/11

A: A clear amber pour with a fluffy two-finger head.

S: Lots of citrus hops, grapefruit rind, malts and oak.

T: More hops balanced with a distinct malt backbone. The oak is present as well. I was hoping for more hops, but I am a hophead so...

M: Smooth and oily with nice carbonation and a dry finish.

O: A great DIPA with a nice juicy hop-malt balance.

Pours a clean yellow to orange-ish color with an off white head. In the aroma, oaky, alcohol and dry pine hops. In the taste, dry pine hops, oaky, and a taste of alcohol with no burn. A small hop bitterness and a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a dry oak and pine hop in the aftertaste. Line smell to taste, but nice. Nice small oak presence, and a small alcohol presence, wi=hich is somewhat hidden.
