On tap at the brewpub. Beautiful clear garnet in the glass with a small white cap that recedes to a thin ring. The color and clarity are exceptional. The aroma is not exceptional. Fruity esters, ripe cherries, dates, molasses, all things sweet. It's somewhat enjoyable at first, but as it warms up the sweetness becomes overwhelming. It's even worse on the palate, as the intense fruity sweetness is matched by a strange grainy and woody astringency. Together they work relentlessly to wear down the tongue, like an unstoppable force of palate destruction. My tongue quickly met defeat, and the half-full glass remained on the table unmolested forevermore, basking in glory and victory.

On tap at 21st Amendment Brewery in San Francisco, CA.

Pours a murky dark orange-brown with a foamy tan head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, berry, dark fruit, wood, and yeast aromas. Taste is much the same with raspberry , raspberry juice, spice, yeast, and wood flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of bitterness and an alcohol kick on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and sticky mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with tasty but strong raspberry flavors.

Serving type: on tap.
