This is an imperial red. According to 21st, it says it has been oak aged.

There is an intense citrus hop tone to this one, but it's not obliterating my mouth. Very consistent flavor. Hearty, full, precise. A pleasant ale. And for the higher abv, you're only tasting boozy tones in a minor way. A pretty easy drinker, especially considering the style.

Draft at the brewpub.

Somewhat cloudy red color (or maybe that’s just due to the plastic cup they served it in, although you can’t really blame them with all the post-Giants game drunkies) with a lasting one-finger yellowish tan head.

Simcoe hops are big on the aroma, lending a grapefruit and pine note to balance the sweet malts, oak, and mild vanilla.

The flavor has some oak, but man, oak aging is the poor man’s barrel aging, that’s for sure. Caramel malt, vanilla, citrus fruits, and pine.

A little syrupy on the palate with lower carbonation.

Overall not bad, but could use some refining for sure.

Served at the brewpub.

A: Light, nutty-red brown. Some head and great lacing.

S: Sour and hoppy. Sour may not be the right term, but it seems to fit. Dry and bitter.

T: Damned agreeable! A sort of imperial red ale? Really well balanced with what tastes like caramel malt laying down a strong base complemented by citrus hops. Hint of sweet alcohol before a relatively dry end taste. Mmm.

M: Malty and robust, but the teensiest bit thin.

O: I really, really liked this beer. Interesting and recommended. Will have again.
