Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.20%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
You might not expect a Saison in winter. But the enemy didn’t expect Washington to cross the icy Delaware, either. Expectations be damned, we say. We’re sneaking up on winter with a boatload of bravado and this Belgian-style farmhouse ale. Dry hopped with whole organic cardamom pods, our Saison has an assertive spiciness. In your face, winter.

Sneak Attack Saison brewed by 21st Amendment Brewery, with an ABV of 6.20% This brew pours out a amber color with a nice white head. The smell is rich with flavors. You pick up on spices, malts, and grains. The taste is bold with spice and grains. There is a lot going on in this brew. The mouthfeel is nice, clean and refreshing. There is nothing overpowering in this brew, it has a nice balance to it. Overall I'm giving Sneak Attack Saison a 4.25 out of 5 . I would buy this brew again.

Pours a dark golden brown with a nice head. Smell is biscuit malt and grass with a little bit of yeast. The flavor is dry but not bitter, with a clean finish and strong cardamom flavor with overtones of biscuit and wild yeasts. Other saisons I've tried tend to be herbal (sometimes too much so) but the spicy cardamom is more crisp and perfectly fits a winter brew. The balanced flavors and body make this an extremely drinkable, tasty, original beer.

Poured from a 12 oz. can into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass. Canned on 12-17-12.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy yellowish golden orange with a lot of bubbles. Big four finger white head with decent retention. Leaves a lot of lacing around the glass.

Smell: A very spicy and yeasty aroma with good hints of citrus. Belgian yeast with some hints of barnyard funk, pepper, and clove. Big scent of cardamom spicing that really sticks out. Herbal, earthy hops with a hint of grass. Hints of citrus orange and lemon zest along with some banana. Soft malts with hints of wheat grains, hay, and biscuit. A nice spice driven Saison smell.

Taste: Like the smell hints, a very spice driven Belgian farmhouse taste with esters of citrus. Belgian yeast with pepper and clove spicing along with a little ginger. Big taste of the cardamon spice. Fairly herbal with some earthy hops and grass. Taste of banana and citrus fruit including orange and lemon zest. Soft bready malts with notes of wheat grains, hay, and biscuit. A pretty nice twist on the style.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a medium to high level of carbonation. Crisp, spicy, and very smooth. Fairly drying.

Overall: A pretty good tasting take on the style. A pretty untraditional take on it with the heavy cardamon, but it works well.

A: Hazy golden with a white ring of head.

S: Peach, tropical fruit, cardamom, nutmeg and cinnamon.

T: Tropical fruit, similar spices to the nose, and peach. Maltier on the finish but second sip is fruity all the way through.

M: Medium bodied with the typical saison feel.

O: Flavors are amazing. It could stand to be smoother, and the peach and tropical fruits could be stronger.

Had 2 pints from a tap at a local bar. Pleasantly surprised that this tasted like a "real" Saison to me, even when served on the cool side. Plenty here to enjoy; taste, aroma, mouth feel.

A - Straw yellow with a foamy head and a touch of lace on the glass, not much

S - Pepper and spices. Smells tasty

T - Funky farmhouse yeast is prevalent. Lots of pepper and spices. Citrus and fruit. I dig it.

M - Lots of carbonation leaves a sizzling feeling on the tongue as it goes down.

O - Not the best Saison I have ever had, but in a can? Gotta love that! Definitely will hit this one up again..

I would sum this one up by asking if you liked chai latte's? I know this sounds odd but this beer resembles that smooth spicy flavor you've loved from one of my favorite specialty coffee drinks. At a whopping 6.2% alc/vol you would never of guessed for how easy this one goes down. (Wouldn't have guessed it was alcoholic at times) If you were looking for a more traditional saison you may step back and wonder why it wasn't spot on, but it does post right on the can it is brewed with cardamom so right away if you didn't know what that was, you shouldn't haven't been surprised this beer had a more exotic flavor. Only for the better in my opinion, this beer is fantastic and drinks just like any other summer celebration beer. I hope you'll enjoy!

A: Bright golden with a fair amount of carbonation, small and large bubbled head that fades fast like a melting mashmallow. A cloudiness to the beer, with a swirl of white sediment near the center.

S: Light and citrusy, reminding me of a heffe weizen. Some spice, perhaps coriander, most likely cardamom as the can indicates. Some Belgian yeast smell as well.

T: Light, dry, citrusy and herby, a grapefruit rind bitterness near the end with herbs. Definite Beligan yeastiness as well. Reminds me of a lemonade with the rind in, and without sugar. Somewhat fruity aftertaste.

M: Light body, medium high carbonation.

O: Very dry, and almost no sweetness. Would go great with some dry cheeses like a parmesan. Its growing on me as I drink it. First time to have a 21st Amendment Brewery’s beer. The picture on the can is outrageous and funny.

Poured from a 12 oz can (of course) into a tall goblet.

A - Pale golden yellow with a bit of haze, but mostly translucent. One finger of white bubbly head with very retention.

S - Spicy and yeasty. Hints of orange. Spot on for the style.

T - Bready with a decent amount of spice and again just a touch of citrus.

M - Slightly overwhelming in body, then the carbonation starts to do its trick. A little heavy on the finish.

O - I like the winter seasonal Fireside Chat better, but this is a decent saison.
