Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.20%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
You might not expect a Saison in winter. But the enemy didn’t expect Washington to cross the icy Delaware, either. Expectations be damned, we say. We’re sneaking up on winter with a boatload of bravado and this Belgian-style farmhouse ale. Dry hopped with whole organic cardamom pods, our Saison has an assertive spiciness. In your face, winter.

I found the doubts about this beer because it came in a can to be groundless.
I love this brewer and I vastly prefer cans.

A: Big yellow body with big dense Belgian head, lots of floaters. However, it fades too fast and laces not enough after the first rings. Initial visual impression is good.

S: Classic saison, almost in direction of a white Duvel, with grainy toast malt, lemon, lemon grass, cracker, floral and effervescent.
T: Follows smell, plenty of sweetness and yeast that fall right into my expectation, so much so that I can drink more of these if I had them. Pilsner yes, but not bland, like every other American version I have tried, this is more like a real Beligan. Coriander, and hops, fill out the bill in a lovely long tingly finish.
MF: As noted long tingly finish, fluffy feeling, refreshing, well made.

Must try.

A: Bright lemon peel coloring, slight, misty haze with a medium dense, slow rise of effervesce. Big, creamy white capping, lasting appeal, leaving a thick band of lace behind.

S: Quick, initial wiff of bananas, then some light musky citrus. Tart orange, dry sweetness of caramel grains and bread, with sliver of barnyard air.

T: Flavor had an initial sweetness of caramel-orange, toasted grains, soft hay and a touch of barnyard muskiness. Lightly dry lemon tartness with a nice leave of dry tropical, pineapple, lightly tart frutiness and banana.

M: Mouthful was spritzy , nice snappy bite of carbonation, bready feel, that turns frothy on the hold.

O: Overall a fairly solid saison, tart citrus in a can, sharp carbonation, though flavor could of been a bit sharper and more defined.
