Jever has a thick, frothy, white head, a clear, golden appearance, some very fine suspended sediment, and a little bit of lacing left behind. The aroma is of faint malt sweetness, and the flavor is of sharp, strong, grassy hop bitterness, with a background cracker malt. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Jever finishes crisp and refreshing.

BBD 11/16. Clear golden pour. Outstanding head volume, very good lacing and quite outstanding retention.

Outstanding nose of light airy grassy hops with a touch of herbal thrown in. Underneath is a grainy note that is not quite cracker biscuit.

Heavy light body that is very smooth with just a slight oiliness. World class carbonation / body balance. Middle effervescence is moderate and the finish is prickly...just the right balance.

The flavor profile is very good but lacks a touch of sweetness for complexity, contrast and balance. Bitterness is mild. Hop flavor consists of grassy up front then shifts to herbal in the middle. Herbal flavor flows through the finish and lingers along with a residual bitterness.

Having a dear friend from East Frisia, this beer finds its way into my rotation more often than most. While I am not a huge fan of the style, I have grown quite fond of Jever.

This nose is nice, light, and effervescent. All the notes you'd expect from a pilsner. The taste follows suit and maintains a playful existence on your palate. Finish is nice and crisp. Great for drinking all day on a North German beach.

Essentially Heineken with a little more flavor....not bad but nothing too wild.

Probably the grassiest Pils I've tasted. NIce crisp aftertaste and refreshing bite on the pallet. Great Pils! But minus a point for the headache the next day.

Does anyone rate by style? 81? This is a phenomenal German Pilsner. Clear gold, tiny white bubbles creating a nice and sticky lacing, smells of lightly toasted bread. Sweet with good balance from noble hop presence. Overall, a wonderful and easy to drink beer, that has stood up to the test of time. Prost!

I've Had this at home and in Hamburg, a northern German city that was a leader in the Hanseatic League of the 16th Century. Jever is brewed nearby and has that influence of a trading city (i.e. it is open to new ideas.) In this case, it used too many hops; making this lager too dry for me. While I enjoyed it both times, this is not a session beer for me.

More appreciative was MJ's 1999 "Guide" that gave it 4 of 4 stars saying it "has a big hop bouquet, a yeasty palate and a robust finish." But he did indicate it had diminished in character after it was acquired by a national group.

Serves from a can a clear golden yellow and an inch of head that quickly dissipates. Not much on the nose. Taste is resemblant of a pilsner with some bitterness on the end. Finish is light, crisp, bitter and smooth.

Light yellow. Thin but firm head.
Spice and freshly baked bread aroma.
Quite grainy and bitter. Hops are present but not outstanding.
Begged to deceive.
