A swingtop bottle poured into a Fantome glass appears a beautiful golden yellow with a white cap 3 fingers tall that fades leaving a full wall of lace.

Aroma is coriander heavy at first with some husky grain and then a burnt aspect comes out as the brew breathes.

Tastes like scorched grain, mild fruity alcohol and lemon/coriander. While chilled its not terrible but as it warms up, it tastes like something went wrong (which it did in the time period this was brewed.)

Medium in body with modest carbonation. Not the worst bottle ive had from the equipment failure era but also not something id want again. Glad this taste profile is behind us and no longer an issue.

Reviewed from notes. Swing top 750ml bottle shared by Richard - thanks.

A: Pours a hazy pale yellow with a half-inch thick white head which fades which lingers long and yields spotty lace.

N: Smokey, rope/twine, grainy, yeasty farmhouse.

T: Follows nose with twangy and smoky yeast.

M: Light body and medium carbonation. Finishes yeasty, smoky and farmhouse peppery spice.

O: Interesting. First smoked Fantome I've ever had.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy pale orange body. Big white head. Nice lacing. Head lasts forever.

Smell - Smokey pale malts and yeasty esters. Pale malt fruitiness.

Taste - Light smoke up front. Pale malt. Fruity esters. Slight herbal flavor in the finish. And then a kinda gross heavy smoke finish.

Mouthfeel - Well carbonated. Gross sulfuric smokey finish.

Overall - Icky. Not much else to be said.

750ml swing-top from Etre Gourmet. Served in a tulip on the 4th of July at Jason's place.

A - White foam settles to a thin cap, thick collar, and specks of lace. Hazy peach flesh body. Style-appropriate and good for the ABV.

S - A very odd mixture of lemon dish soap and smoked meats. Peppery yeast, tobacco, and astringent tea-like notes. Very odd and certainly unique.

T - The taste is also a bizarre mixture of smoked meats, peppery yeast, stone fruit malts, unmalted grains, and flowery hops. Alcohol is well-hidden.

M - Medium-full body with good heft for the listed 8%. Dry, but chewy. Lower carbonation makes things a tad watery and there's some alcohol warmth in the finish.

D - This is one of those perplexing Fantôme offerings, and unfortunately not in a good way. The odd smoke character clashes and distracts from the flavors I do enjoy. Couldn't drink more than a few ounces of this. Pretty disappointing; even more so than Extra Sour Dark.
