Père Noël is a Christmas ale, though very different from any other Christmas ales you might know. While most Christmas ales are rich & sweet, this one is amber-coloured, 7% vol. Alc. strong and tastes quite bitter. The complex taste is completed with the addition of liquorice. In the recipe we can also find pale malt, Munich malt, Caramel malt, Brewers Gold hops and Hallertau hops.

Had this later than Christmas, just couldn't resist...
I really liked its look, I really liked the scent of this, but I didn't find the beer as flavorful as I thought it would be - very mild as Belgian strong ale...

I’m not sure how to describe this. Different is not an understatement. Expected spices and got hops, herbs.
It’s dry and curious and a little odd.
I suppose that is how some people take Christmas: curious and odd.

Rerate. 330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Cloudy deep golden colour, large white head. Has a more pronounced hoppiness than your average Belgian Christmas beer. Very nice, score unchanged.
Original rating: Bottles, shared at Holmen Nanobryggeri’s annual Christmas/Yule beer tasting. ABV 7.0%. Cloudy deep golden to orange colour, moderate white head. Spicy attractive aroma. Spicy flavour with decent hops throughout. An enjoyable brew!

Really nice overall. Hoppy and spicy. You can taste the alcohol but it's not out of place. Slight hints of banana but the Xmas spices are a bit more subtle with the hoppi ness taking the front flavors. Pretty mellow on the back, but I wouldn't say really smooth. Would drink again.

Creamy, soft and abundant foam.
2020 Version (EXP 03/09/2025)
Color, as usual, amber orange.
Soft body in the mouth.
Caramel and sweetish hints, slightly toasted, before the arrival of a rather bitter hint that after drinking brings out spicy notes of licorice, gooseberry and green pepper (more flagrant than last year, in my memory)
However characterized by a good bitterness.
Christmas beer always "sui generis" where the candied and panettone aspects are definitely set aside by a strong bitterness and spicy hints that enhance the drink due to having swallowed the sip.

Lovely clear amber brew topped with floating islands of foam in Bellegems Bruin glass. Slushy mothfeel with a dose of acidity. Aroma is butter and apples. It really tastes like apples, sweet and cider.
Pleasantly sweet and fruity. sort of a mild spice cake taste with a lemony touch. The Belgian yeast seeps its way into the aftertaste and adds a modest bitter edge. Very scratchy, though, after alf a glass. From the 750 ml bottle purchased on the West Coast.
