Style: Tripel

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Guldenberg is a tripel-style abbey ale containing 8.5% vol. Alc. Its colour is blond and it’s made of pale malt with the addition of candy sugar. The bitterness comes from the Hallertau hops we use as bitterhop and as aromahop. On top of that we use dry – hopping techniques with the same hops which give the ale its unique flavour and aroma and its perfect balance between sweet and bitter. The name came from the former Guldenberg Abbey in Wevelgem, the village of birth of Nino, one of the brewers. According to data in Flandria Illustrata ale was brewed here in the past.

Clear golden, lots of fine bubbles, white fine fast setting head
Very spicy, phenolic, green apple, some malts and booze
Very spicy and dry, white pepper, little booze
effervescent, refreshing, a bit biting, smoother when yeast is poured
Tripel that is expressively phenolic and peppery, in my opinion this too much

Very smooth version of this beer. Hazy pale golden with smallish head, lots of hay, meadow and grass aromas, which carry over to the taste. All around pleasant brew and good introduction to the style.

Very light gold yellow, almost completely transparent. One finger of fluffy white head. Phenomenal lacing.

Almost champagne nose. Candi sugar hits the side of the tongue and starts a lasting sweetness. A great example of the style, top notch.

11.2oz bottle poured into a tulip
(A)- Pours a hazed goldenrod yellow color. Produced a nice cap of white froth with good retention and lacing
(S)- Absolutely bone dry. Hints of a yeasty hay, biscuit, and lemon peel; quite earthy
(T)- Quite similar to the smell. Bone dry with dense yeast and earthy hay. A few subtle apple-like flavors poke through but otherwise very dry and yeast driven
(M)- A good carbonation level and balance. Earthy, dry, and not quite bitter. Again, heavy yeast components
(O)- Overall, quite nice. Not sure on the bottles age, but I like the earthiness that carries through in this
