Style: Belgian Pale Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
From the brewery: "Cuvee is an ale of mixed origin like many Belgian breweries used to make. The production process is nearly the same as for the Kriek, the difference being that no cherries are added. It's a naturally acidified ale in which we try to reach the perfect balance between sweet and sour. This amber-coloured ale contains 7% vol. Alc. and can age really nice."

In many ways a peculiar beer, consisting of 70% "Sour Ale" and 30% young lambic (from Girardin).

The hints of complexity are of a blink and you'll miss it kind, the prevalent taste is one very similiar to an unblended, young, hoppy lambic.

It's good, very good in fact, but it does become a bit too one sided during the course of a 75cl bottle.

Reminds me a lot of Cantillon Iris, like a hoppy iambic.
L - Clean golden with no head

S - herbal hop presence, tart, fruity and a bit of caramel malt

M - light carbonation, a bit thick

O - a great wild ale. Tart and sweet are well balanced

really unique blend here, almost like a belgian tripel or strong golden as a base, oak aged and with some lambic blended in, quite a distinct beer, but also rather subtle, certainly next to many of its lambic and lambic blended peers. soft yellow in color, cloudy but without visible sediment, and relaxed looking under a half inch of sudsy white topping. the aroma here is belgian yeast before sour or funk, although all three fermenting elements are present. i pcik up mild citrus fruit and floral qualities from the belgian strain, and then a bit of citric acidity from the bacterial aspect. sweet wood and rich wheat as well. the flavor is just like the nose, just add in a bit more of a bretty farmy funky finish that carries on the acidity just a little. very complex and a lot going on, even though its not as pungent or intense as others, i really like the layers here, its mellow but its genius. great with grilled and smoked meats, but awesome on its own too. i would love to know more about the blend, but the end result is excellent. i love being able to pick out all three yeast aspects, and the way the wood brings it all together. awesome stuff, and not too easy to come by...

Bottle shared thanks to sjogro. Hazy orange pour with a white head. Notes of macerated fruit, vwhite grapes vinegar, lambic funk, baking soda and some salt. Dry and refreshing, with a bitter-sour aftertaste, high carbonation.

From chilled bottle. Tulip glassware.
Beautiful auburn copper colour.
Consistent but thin head throughout.
Spicy warm aroma with definite funk. Flavour follows with addition of tart apple, balanced acidity an sourness. Lingering dry aftertaste.
Overall a great beer. Deserving of its reputation.

Cooper gold color with light lacing. Aroma is dry with notes of lacto, champagne yeast, berry stems and a little must. Very nice balance on the tongue between the lacto sourness and the earthier pale ale notes (hay, yeasty cork, a bit of dry pear). I'm not adverse to lacto but so often it overwhelms the rest of the beer, this cuvee is a great presentation of those notes but coupled with a strong base beer. Light bodied, good carbonation and a easy semi-dry finish. Excellent beer.
