A wonderful example of a saison: hoppy, thirst quenching, and balanced. I loved mixed fermentation saisons as much as the next guy, but how many traditional belgian saisons are funky (someone below dissed this for not having much/any barnyard...well, there's no brett, so that's a good sign)? Dupont, for one, is clean. Whatever you call this, it is an excellent low abv beer that is refreshing, complex and straight forward all at the same time. If I worked in a field all day, I'd sooner reach for this than a dorthy from HF. Oh, and Nino and Guido (founders and brewers) are awesome, still using whole hops from a single grower.

Another lovely beer of The Ranke. Perfect bitterness.

L: trouble, wheatbeer look, unequal top, last less long than I expected;
S: perfect; spicy, hopbitterish;
T: difficult to describe, in line with the smell, tiny sweety, perfect bitter ending; this beer holds the middle between a wheatbeer (though there isn't wheat in it) and an BIPA.
M: alcohol and aftertaste are nice; carbonation could be a bit stronger;
O: great spicy, fresh beer, longing for the sun to return.

A: great rocky head, amber color
S: great nose, yeasty, malty, traditional Belgium saison
T: extremely well-balanced, all the classic hallmarks of a traditional saison, yeasty, earthy, good malt and great hop balance, not overly bitter
M: soft
D: extremely drinkable

Poured out of a 12 oz bottle into a chalice. Served cool.

Pours a gold yellow body with a hazy reddish hue. Off white head that is the proper thickness for the style.

Nice aromas. Immediately smelling mown grass and clay. Some lemon and coriander notes as well.

Herbal notes for taste. Some lemon and very quenching. Well balanced.

Mouthfeel is light and not over the top carbonation.

I think that this is a spot on saison. A saison the way it was meant to be. Very quenching, easy drinking, flavors that are subdued but present. Not a bland beer in the least.

I've pretty much given up on reviewing beers, but this one inspired me.

Pours a perfect, slightly cloudy yellow with a billowing white head. It leaves something that's more akin to webbing than "lacing"...must be loaded with hops. A little whiff confirms that--crisp, floral, grassy hops abound. Light pilsner malt aroma with slight yeasty hints. The taste is also quite hoppy, but in a mostly aromatic sense. That's not to say it isn't bitter--it is--but it's a dry, refreshing bitterness. Very light sweetness from the malts at the start, but it finishes without any hint of it; very well attenuated. Substantial body for a Saison with just the right amount of carbonation.
