sweet citrus smelling, a little funky, like over ripe raspberry's that if you don't eat soon you'll have have to throw.

very light wispy head , dissipates quickly. some lacing on the glass.

taste like bruised green apple candy, sweet . very sweet. a good blend of hops, but not mouth numbing or super bitter.

light , with a typical watery ipa mouthfeel.

good job lakefront. another success.

12oz bottle served into a Great Lakes snifter 6/15/2014.

A- Hazy golden orange body, one finger white head with fair retention, leaving rings of lacing.

S- Pine and citrus, some onion. Not a whole lot else, but there is definitely a good bit of citrus to it. A bit of biscuit, but not a lot of malt sweetness.

F- Biscuits, some citrus, onions. Finish is pretty piney and quite bitter. A bit different than I'd like it- I'd like it more citrusy, grapefruity with less of the bitter finish.

M- Medium body, enough carbonation, quite bitter on the backend.

O- Decent DIPA, probably one of the better ones out of Wisconsin but it's still not that particularly impressive. It lacks that citrus punch and has too much bitterness along with the onion that detracts from the rest of it.

Thanks to drewone for sharing this one at Wowcoolman's tasting.

Pours a hazy golden orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, and spicy herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest and grapefruit juice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

Serving type: bottle.

12oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. Thanks Andy!

(A)- Pours a pale golden orange color. Produced a rather large fluffy white cap of froth that stuck around for awhile before dissipating. Tons of clumpy lacing left behind.

(S)- Very dank. Bits of pine meets musty orange and lime citrus.

(T)- Despite the smell, it has a lengthy finish of a great blend of lemon lime citrus and subtle pine. Not overly bitter or sweet, but right in the middle of that.

(M)- A good carbonation level and balance. Not overly bitter or sweet. Solid citrus and pine.

(O)- Overall, its really a solid DIPA. Well balanced and has the citrus and pine that we have all come to expect. Damn tasty

Pours an orange-ish gold, typical color for a malty IIPA.

Smell is so-so, grapefruity hops and strong whiffs of the sweetness from the malt base compete for your attention.

Taste is very similar to the nose, grapefruit citrus and cut grass are the predominant hop flavors, and the malts really assert themselves on the midpalate. Decently bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is good, thick with good carbonation.

Overall, this is a very good beer from Lakefront. They would be wise to make this a year round offering, as this is probably the best overall brew they've made. Still doesn't compete with the top-tier IIPAs like Heady and Pliny, but something I would pick up regularly.

12 oz bottle poured into a pub-style glass.

Gold with 1 finger of white head. Good retention and clarity with light carbonation.

Tangerine, papaya, mango, honey, and honeydew.

Papaya, honeydew, and tangerine. Honey sweet malts with some additional candy sugar. Grapefruit juice and hints of mango. Touches of dank greens and wintermint.

Medium-plus bodied, smooth, and juicy with a very light bitterness.

Big citrus and tropical hop flavors with a low bitterness. Hides the 8% extremely well.

Pours golden with a foamy head that leaves lacing.

The smell is of grapefruit, orange, tangerine, black pepper. Very hoppy with a hint of caramelized grain. Wonderfully aromatic!

The taste is of citrus and tropical fruits with a dash of black pepper. Hops tied together with a sweetening caramelized grainy malt backbone. Slightly boozy, with refreshing bitter bite in the finish.

It is smooth despite a mildly boozy kick. On the lighter end of the DIPA body spectrum, but solidly medium-bodied.

"Too" easy to drink despite strong character. Certainly a hoppy, though balanced by enough malt, enjoyable, interesting DIPA!

12 oz bottle poured into a Lakefront tulip.
8.0% ABV, Bottled on 04/23/14

A - Bright golden, shimmering with clarity, this double IPA is certainly lighter colored on the spectrum, retaining it's loose cap of white foam nicely, all while leaving delicate lace on the glass.

S - Luscious hops ooze from the nose with purpose; juicy pineapple and mango tropical fruit with green tea leaves dissolve into more potent, earthy notes of pine sap, action figure resin and a note of burnt rubber when it's swirled - yeah, this beer's got a lot of hops in it. Sweet caramel provides some balance with a smooth-smelling backbone.

T - A blend of tropical fruit washes over the tongue bringing mango, pineapple, and grapefruit juices with each sip but, the fruitiness is somewhat short-lived, fading into spicy notes of black pepper, pine needle, and dank grass. For 8% the malt base is surprisingly light, barely interfering with the hops.

M - Johnson's smooth malt base makes for bolder hops up front and a lighter-bodied profile that drinks wonderfully, finishing with lingering bitterness that seems mild at first but builds in intensity.

O - At only 8%, Johnson is big. The alcohol is, for the most part, hidden; the hops are ripe, and the beer drinks more like a regular IPA. And that's a good thing because the second Chris in the line for the My Turn series, Chris Johnson, was shooting for a fruity, easier drinking double IPA; one that wouldn't put you on your ass after one pint. Johnson developed earthier characteristics between the Bright tank and bottling (to Chris' dismay) but this double IPA is delicious nonetheless, delivering hop complexity straight to da dome!

A. Amber to light orange with a lot of carbonation bubbles. White head that recedes rather quickly but leaves a good bit of lacing.

S. Starts out very tropical with citrus, mango and pineapple. After taking on some air a piney dankness takes over. Overall this is a great smelling beer.

T. Dank pine, hop resin, citrus. I get very little in the way of malt flavors. Alcohol is well hidden. Finishes with a strong jab of lingering hop bitterness. Nice.

M. Light to medium bodied with some slickness to the mouthfeel.

O. My first bottle of this beer seemed average to me. This one tastes a whole lot more complex and much more to my liking. Lakefront/Johnson has crafted an excellent DIPA.

I've always thought that Lakefronts beers were good, but not great...until now! This beer is dead on to style.

S- awesome! Mango, passion fruit etc... Must be Citra or Mosaic hops in here.
A- perfect. Nice white head. Poured hard 2-2.5 finger head
T- nice and bitter up front grapefruit with some tropical fruit. Really nice!
O- really good DIPA. Definitely top 3 in the state of WI.

Well done Lakefront. Make this a repeating seasonal!

Brother just delivered this from the Dells... For some reason Lakefront sends there my turn series everywhere except La Crosse...

Pours a slightly hazy tangerine color half finger of head, great lacing

Smell is mango, kiwi, apricot, tangerine, grapefruit, lime and some a honeydew melon, a bit of herbal hop character, No real malt in the nose

Taste is tangerine, kiwi, apricot, honeydew, grapefruit rind, spruce, a little bready malt underneath but not that much.

Mouthfeel is medium light, a hefty carbonation, finishes pretty dry

Well this here is a great beer, would get this one year round if I could... Drinks a little more like a IPA and half then a double, but who cares because it is great!

The nose is a little deeper then the taste but both are great.

Pours a dense, huge, resiny head with insane persistence and massive lacing. HUGELY aromatic! AMAZING, floral hop aroma with plenty of pine and grapefruit as well. Clear, golden-amber color. Starts with a flash or sweetness and mostly resiny, grapefruit hops. Moves into a nice, medium bitterness with pine notes which becomes very citrus rind in flavor as it moves into a low-high bitterness. The finish is lingering citrus rind.

This is really great. It is AMAZINGLY aromatic, and has a nice bitterness with a great hop flavor profile; grapefruit, flowers, and a little pine. Another great installment in the "My Turn" series.

poured 12oz bottle into snifter. Bottled 4/23/14.

A - Hazy sun kissed orange with a 2 finger white head that recedes rather quickly but leaves a thick collar and nice swathes of lacing on the glass.

S - Wow, the sweet tropical notes are so intense! Big juicy mango, apricot, passion fruit and some citrus. Some sweet caramel also mingles with all the tropical aromas with a hint of dankness and pine. This is the perfect aroma for me.

T - Big tropical hop flavors that are juicy and sweet. Not as perfect as the nose, but still very good. Mango, apricot, passion fruit and some citrus with notes of sweet caramel. Finish has some bitter grapefruit and pine to it.

M - Light to medium bodied with some slight bitterness, dryness, and slickness to the mouthfeel

O - One of the best IIPA's in WI and I wish it wasn't so limited. Everyone get on social media and beg Lakefront to add this to their seasonal rotation. They did it with the barleywine, so why not their first IIPA?

Beautiful beer. Clear golden color. Can see right through.

Smells like apricot, peach and other juicy nectars. It's not a POW smell but it's full and delicious. Galaxy, Mosaic, Citra, Simcoe, Centennial this new variety from New Zealand called Rakau are the perfect combo. Simcoe and Mosaic don't dominate like I've usually experienced. I've never had Rakau, but I'd assume it's Rakau and Galaxy that dominate based on the juiciness of the aroma.

The taste is a magnified version of the aroma. Bottled on 4/23... it's not like the aroma has died down. It just seems the taste is bigger than the smell. This doesn't happen much in my experience. It is fruity, delicious, and a flavor that simply won't get old or boring. Tropical goodness that begs you to come back for more.

Mouthfeel is not bitter. It's as juicy as it gets. Amazing. Drinkababilty is off the charts. Based on drinkability, you could convince me this beer is 6%, but the amount of flavor proves it's not.

Overall, I love this beer. It's designed for me. I've had bigger beers, more intense beers... But this beer is just right up my alley. I pray Lakefront makes this a seasonal or year round beer. If they have access to the hops, I'd buy it all the time. Well done! Lakefront would be smart to keep this on the market.

Nice golden honey pour with minimal white head and sporadic lacing.

A freakin classic. Hop-o-plenty, sweet cracker malt and pine. Earthy hop leaf.

Straight across the board. A mellifluous blend of tropical fruit and very distinguishable, guava, mango, and semi-sweet pineapple leading the way. Sweetened Sugar Smacks cereal malt flowing well to spread the hop bitterness like butter! Moderate alcohol noted. ABV dosed just right-needle on comfortable.

Medium body and luxurious. Sticky, huge and deep-that's what she said! Breathes great through the nose. Carbonation a tad light.

Really nothing to criticize here. Oh how do you do the voodoo that you do?!? One of the most quenchable DIPAs out here. Well balanced fruit, malt, hop and pine. Cubs beat St. Louis this afternoon so it's a win all around. I keep reading about Heady and Pliny and have never scored any but damn this is fine. I'll guesstimate with DIPAs like this, Chicago area will produce some of the finest and most sought after IPAs within the next 12 months. This My Turn Series Johnson is spectacular and the abv makes this mighty fine. Not much room in the box when your swinging a Big Johnson! Tremendously tremendous!

Everything a DIPA should be - exceptional, worth seeking out. A delicious blend of tropical fruit with strong hints of pineapple, grapefruit and mango. Great golden color! Gentle on the tongue with citrusy, earthy hops balanced with a robust caramel character, all finishing just dry and pleasingly bitter. Perfectly balanced ABV. Absolutely nothing to criticize.

A: Golden, very clear, decent head.
S: Pineapple and grapefruit prevail with hints of mango – some grass as it warms
T: Malty up front - a moderate woody dryness with tropical fruit – finishes with a tangy citrus bitterness.
M: Big, full body. The hefty ABV is well-hidden. Fairly low carbonation sensation adds to the mouthfeel.
O: One of the best (perhaps the best) double IPA I’ve had including Pliney and Heddy.
