Roast notes and crystal sweetness are present, and while these characteristics could ruin a Munich Dunkel, and possibly put this one outside of historical style boundaries, I find this to be deftly balanced. An argument could be made that this is no better than a great brown ale, to which I say, so?
This could be a beer I drink all night

12oz bottle, best by 15 MAY 18
Dark brown body with some reddish hues when held to light; creamy khaki head slowly fades. Aroma is fresh roast barley, grain, chocolate, coffee, and earthy hops. Nice balanced flavors with plenty of roast which I appreciate; notes of chocolate, coffee, toasty grain, caramel, and earthy hops with a hint of pine. Medium body, moderate carbonation, finishing well balanced with roasty grain and some modest hops lingering. Really solid, easy drinking dark lager. I'd get this again.

I got a bottle of this from a mixed 12pck that I bought in Brookfield outside of Milwaukee whilst there for a hockey tournament. It poured a deep rich clear mahogany with thin off white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had hints of dark chocolate and roast. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with slight Arabic coffee presence with sweet toffee push. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a decent beer.

L: It drops brilliant chestnut filled with streams of rapidly rising bubbles under a 1" cream cap with fair retention.

S: smells like bread crusts with traces of light chocolate, coffee, nuts and caramel

T: Mild toasted bread crust, mild caramel and nuttiness, and a light chocolate note.

F: The texture is creamy, the body is medium plus and the carbonation is medium.

O: A flavorful, well balanced, easy to drink Munich Dunkel

I picked this up as part of a variety pack put out by Lakefront in the Chicagoland area. My FIL and MIL are in town and my FIL is a big craft beer fan so this should go over well.

This beer pours a dark brown hue that has a little bit of red to it as well. The head is khaki colored and is thick and creamy, dissipating very slowly. Carbonation is moderate and is easily visible. The visibility of the beer is moderately clear due to the dark nature of it, but it is clear enough to see through roughly 50% of the glass. 3.75/5 The aroma is malty and dark with a bit of leather and char to it. There is a light sweetness as well that cuts into the earthy nature of the char. Hops are perceivable as a bit spicy, earthy, and grassy. The hops cut into the darkness as well. 3.75/5 The flavor is big on the malt with a good dose of spicy and grassy hops coming through on the very back end. The hops provide a light bitterness that does not linger on the palate. Sweetness is light, just enough to cut into the dark toast and leathery nature of the malt. 4/5 This is a light bodied beer that has just enough carbonation to be somewhat fizzy. This is more of a wetting and thirst quenching beer than it is a drying beer with just a hint of dryness on the end. This one disappears from the palate entirely after swallowing. 4/5 This is a well rounded dark lager that does not skimp on the flavor while being light enough to be sessionable. The flavor is nicely balanced between the malt and the hops with each playing a strong role. 3.75/5

aromas of malts, caramels.....a little sweet ..... tastes very good, malts are most pronounced, hints of malt flavors linger

overall, one of the better ones I have had of this style....I would have one again

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pilsener glass. There was a dark brown close to black color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light lacing sliding into the beer. The smell had a roasty nutty to chocolate coating over top of a light banana aroma. The taste was mainly sweet through the fruity and malty chocolate - ness. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was good for the style and for me as it was noticeable but not overbearing. I have to admit there’s a really nice smooth creamy banana finish. Overall, what a really nice beer that seemed to show that this could be a great dessert beer.
